Blossoms swing past NWOSU on day one, win both games of doubleheader

The UAM softball team won both games of a GAC doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday from Alvy Early Softball field in Monticello, Arkansas. After a 5-1 victory in game one, the Blossoms won 8-0 in six innings over the Rangers in game two. Caroline Tedder registered four hits on the day while Haley McGhee and Alexis Pevehouse got wins in the circle.

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team won both games of a Great American Conference doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Friday from Alvy Early Softball field in Monticello, Arkansas. After a 5-1 victory in game one, the Blossoms won 8-0 in six innings over the Rangers in game two. Caroline Tedder registered four hits on the day while Haley McGhee and Alexis Pevehouse got wins in the circle.
 
With the wins, UAM moves to 10-9 overall and 8-2 in league games while NWOSU is 3-14 overall and 0-10 in conference contests.
 
GAME ONE: NWOSU 1, UAM 5
The Blossoms clung to one run for most of the game and allowed an unearned run to score tying the contest, 1-1, in the top of the fifth. However, they added a run in the bottom of the fifth and rallied for three more in the sixth to get the 5-1 victory.
 
UAM got its first run on an RBI single from Haley Cornell scoring Kara Debruin.
 
In the top of the fifth, the Rangers got a run after an error in the outfield, but the Blossoms answered in the bottom frame. With a runner on, Tedder doubled to center to score Katelynn Stamper making it 2-1.
 
The Blossoms added a trio of runs in the sixth thanks to a pair of walks and a wild pitch. Chelsea Anderson, Sierra Gasca and Stamper each scored, making it 5-1 UAM.
 
McGhee then slammed the door in the final inning to get the win for the Blossoms.
 
McGhee (3-3) got the win going all seven innings allowing just one unearned run on six hits and a walk while striking out six.
 
GAME TWO: NWOSU 0, UAM 8 (6 Innings)
In game two, the Blossoms sprung for 11 hits and got some solid pitching from Pevehouse for shutout win.
 
After a run in the bottom of the first, the Blossoms manufactured three in the bottom of the third. Haley Cornell, Gasca and Stamper all came across after some solid baserunning.
 
The Blossoms added another run in the third, and in the fifth, they showed off some power. Haley Godeaux got the bottom frame started with a bang drilling a no-doubt homer to left, and Paige Eddington hit one to center later in the inning making it 7-0.
 
Sydney Webster singled in the final run in the bottom of the sixth as the Blossoms won the game in six innings, 8-0.
 
Pevehouse (W, 6.0) hurled six shutout innings allowing just four hits and two walks as she struck out four.
 
UP NEXT
UAM will finish off their home series tomorrow against NWOSU. First pitch of the day two doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
