UAM Drops GAC Opener

A rough shooting night for the Blossoms leads to a 53-30 defeat against Arkansas Tech.

Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball lost its Great American Conference opener to Arkansas Tech on Thursday at Steelman Field House. Despite the shooting struggles of the team, Kayla Bradley paced the offense with 17 points in the 53-30 defeat.

UAM scuffled offensively shooting just 17.2 percent from the field and 18.2 percent from three point range. The Blossoms also only managed six trips to the free throw line, shooting 4-of-6.

The Golden Suns led the entire contest right from the beginning. With UAM struggling to find a bucket in the first half, ATU took advantage dominating the paint and turning nine Blossoms turnovers into 12 fast break points. Bradley carried the load for UAM scoring 10 first half points, while going 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

The Blossom traded buckets with ATU in the third quarter, but could not come up with enough stops to cut into the Golden Suns lead trailing 51-28 heading into the fourth quarter. The 12 points in the quarter for UAM all came through the hands of Bradley, who tallied seven more points and assisted on the two other scores for the Blossoms.

ATU finished the contest by outscoring UAM 12-2 in the fourth quarter. The Blossom ultimately fell 53-30.

Bradley led all scorers with 17 while also picking up a pair of assists and four steals.

Dezirae King led the Blossoms on the glass with eight rebounds.

With the loss, UAM falls to 0-1 overall and in Great American Conference games while Arkansas Tech improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in GAC contests.

The Blossoms will be back in play on Saturday when they host Harding University at Steelman Field House at 2 p.m.
