Box Score MONTICELLO, AR – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team took on a conference match with Northwestern Oklahoma State University this evening. The Blossoms and Rangers split the first two sets, but NWOSU won the next two to secure the victory.
UAM falls to 7-14 on the season and 2-8 in the Great American Conference, while NWOSU improves to 8-16 on the year and 3-7 in conference action.
GAME FLOW
The blossoms and Rangers went back and forth early. That was until UAM went on an 11-0 run to put them up 21-8. The Rangers would get two points back, but the blossoms would close out the first set; scoring the final four points in a row to win comfortably 25-10.
In the second stanza, UAM took an early 5-0 run and pull ahead to a 9-3 lead. NWOSU, though, would show their fight and responded with a 6-1 run to bring the score back to 10-9. Multiple kills by Riley Krenek kept the blossoms close throughout the remainder of this set. NWOSU would go on to win the second, 25-22.
The third set opened with UAM earning their first four points on a handful of attack errors by the NWOSU. The blossoms showed their fight by going point for point with the Rangers. However, NWOSU managed to close out the set with an 8-0 run to finish 25-15.
UAM struggled to find their footing in the fourth set. Mia Smalls had a pair of kills as the blossoms battled their way back to a 19-15 game. However, NWOSU would quickly push forward and prove to be too much as the Rangers went on to win the final set, 25-19, and match, 3-1.
UAM was led by Riley Krenek, Mikaela Brown, and Jamie Agnew on the attack with Krenek tallying 8 kills, as well as Brown and Agnew each posting 7.
Mia Smalls added 22 assists to the cause along with two service aces.
NWOSU's offense proved to be the difference as the Rangers bested UAM in kills, 61-48.
