UAM FALLS IN FIVE SETS TO SWOSU

THE UAM VOLLEYBALL TEAM FELL IN A FIVE-SET MATCH AGAINST SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE ON SATURDAY. AFTER GOING BACK AND FOURTH THE FIRST FOUR SETS, THE BLOSSOMS LOST IN THE FINAL SET, 15-7.

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team fell just shy of taking down Southwestern Oklahoma State University in its Great American Conference matchup Saturday. The Blossoms went game for game with the Bulldogs, forcing a fifth set, but ultimately came up short in the final set 15-9.

UAM fell to 7-15 on the season after dropping its conference match this Saturday afternoon.

The opening set went the way of UAM as the Blossoms pulled ahead early off three consecutive Jamie Agnew Kills to make it 4-2. The Bulldogs showed their fight, but it wasn't enough as the Blossoms came out on top of the first set 25-21.

In the second set UAM came out hot with a 7-4 lead, but SWOSU would respond with a 5-0 run to take back control. This led to a tight back-and-forth battle through the majority of the set as the two squads exchanged leads multiple times. SWOSU managed to take control down the stretch with a 6-0 run, taking the set 26-24.

The Blossoms and Golden Suns traded leads throughout the third set with the squads getting no more than 5 points apart. The final point came at 24-23 as a SWOSU service error gave UAM the set win 25-23.

A hot start to the fourth set as Jamie Agnew and Hailey Fike each had three kills helped UAM build an 11-7 lead midway through the set. The Blossoms would go toe-to-toe with SWOSU as the two would see five ties throughout the remainder of the set. The Bulldogs ultimately won the set 25-22 to force a fifth and final set.

The fifth and final set was a tight battle as the teams exchanged points until UAM surrendered an 8-3 run to the Bulldogs to lose the set 15-9 and drop the match in five sets.

Jamie Agnew, Hailey Fike, and Riley Krenek each had double digit kills for UAM in the contest with Agnew leading the way with 18. Hailey Fike and Riley Krenek followed with 13 apiece.

Mia Smalls led the way for the Blossoms with 48 assists to go along with 10 digs and a service ace.
