ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team lost in four sets at Henderson State University Friday night. The Blossoms dropped the first two sets before battling to take the third, but they were unable to hold on to a late lead in the fourth losing the match 3-1.
UAM (2-3) fell behind the Reddies (2-3) quickly in the first and second sets before dropping them both.
The Blossoms responded fiercely after falling behind again early in the third set. Each time UAM surrendered a run by HSU, the team rallied to bring the score back to a tie. After reaching a 16-16 tie, the Blossom finished on a 9-5 run to take the third set 25-21.
UAM and HSU battled back-and-forth throughout the forth set until the Blossom scored five straight points to take a 19-15 lead. However, the Reddies responded with seven unanswered to go up 23-20. The Blossoms tightened the score to 24-23 before HSU picked up the set and match point to win 3-1.
Isabelle Combs tallied 10 kills for the Blossoms to go along with 19 digs. Three more players for UAM registered at least six kills.
Katie Pearson added 33 assists to the cause as well as 13 digs.
Defensively, five Blossoms notched double-digit digs with Katelyn Richbourg leading the way with 23. Amanda Toyota and Kenzi Thornton also finished with double-digit digs registering 14 and 12, respectively.
