MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team dropped game one of its three-game series against Arkansas Tech 6-4 Friday. The Blossoms were originally scheduled travel to Russellville for the series, but inclement weather moved the games to Alvy Early Field.
UAM, who is the listed as the visiting team for the series, falls to 4-6 overall and 4-5 in Great American Conference play. ATU improves to 6-4 on the season and 4-2 in league games.
Both teams left runners on base in the first inning, before ATU opened the scoring in the bottom of the second. UAM starter Jamie Franks allowed the first run of the contest on a bases loaded walk, but bounced back to end the inning and leave three runners stranded.
Caroline Tedder put the Blossoms on the board in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to left field tying the score 1-1.
The Golden Suns responded with leadoff home run in the bottom of the frame to go back on top 2-1.
UAM came right back in the next inning knotting the score on an RBI-single by Bailey Camp. The Blossoms did not stop there pushing across two more in the frame as Grace Neal was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Tedder followed with an RBI-single to put UAM up 4-2.
Maddie Chalenburg could not hold off the ATU offense in the bottom half of the inning surrendering a two-out two-run triple to tie the score.
Two more runs crossed the plate for the Golden Suns in the bottom of the sixth and the Blossoms were unable to respond in the seventh falling 6-4 in game one of the series.
Chalenburg (L, 1-3) ended with the loss for the Blossoms after taking over on the mound in the third inning. She gave up five runs on seven hits in four innings of work.
Robyn Bales (W, 3-1) earned the win holding UAM scoreless over the final 2.2 innings.
