UAM Comes Up Short of Series Sweep Against Henderson State

The UAM softball team dropped the third and final game of its series against Henderson State Sunday. The Blossoms took the series win, but could not finish off the sweep losing 4-2 at Alvy Early Softball Field.

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team came up short of a series sweep over Henderson State dropping the third and final game of the series Sunday. The Blossom put the first run on the board, but could not hold off the Reddies losing 4-2 at Alvy Early Softball Field.

UAM (3-4, 3-2 GAC) struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Katelynn Stamper led off the frame with a single then stole second and third base. Bailey Camp brought Stamper in to score with a sacrifice fly to left field to put the Blossoms on top early.

HSU (2-10, 1-5 GAC) responded in the second inning plating three runs on three hits against UAM starter Sam Stephens. The Blossoms would get one back in the bottom of frame as Haley Godeaux came in to score on a fielder's choice by Grace Neal.

Both teams were held scoreless in the next three innings. Jamie Franks took over on the bump for the the Blossoms in the fifth working around an error to keep the deficit at 3-2.

The Reddies managed to tack on an insurance run in the top of the sixth on back-to-back doubles.

UAM got two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't bring them around to score falling 4-2 in game three of the series.

Stephens (L, 0-1) finished with the loss giving up three runs on five hits in four innings pitched. Franks surrendered one run on three hits in her three innings on the mound.

Leann Beasley (W, 2-1) earned the win allowing two runs on seven hits over four innings pitched.

UP NEXT

The Blossoms are back in action at Alvy Early Softball Field Tuesday for a doubleheader against Southern Arkansas. Game one is set to start at 1 p.m.
