SHAWNEE, Okla. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball drops the series finale on the road against Oklahoma Baptist in a back-and-forth slugfest Sunday. The Weevils hit four home runs in the contest, but ultimately could not hold off the Bison down the stretch falling 9-8 in game three.
UAM falls to 17-15 overall on the season and 15-12 in Great American Conference play while OBU moves to 20-12 and 18-9.
The Weevils jumped on the scoreboard early when Dylan Borman drove home Cade Thompson on an infield single to the shortstop.
Matt Lundh allowed the Bison to respond in the bottom of the frame with a two-run home run to go in front.
In the second inning UAM bounced right back to retake the lead as Andrew Piraino and Jordan Johnson launched back-to-back long balls to go up 4-2.
Back on the mound for his third inning of work Lundh surrendered another two-run blast to tie the game.
The Weevils again went right back in front in the next frame on Johnson's second round tripper of the game - a two-run shot over the left field wall.
Lundh gave up his third two-run blast in the bottom of the innings allowing the Bison to tie the score at 6-6.
UAM turned to Colby Adkins out of the bullpen to start the bottom of the fifth working the second scoreless frame for the Weevils pitching staff.
Borman put the Weevils back in the lead in the top of the sixth belting a two-run shot to left field.
In the bottom of the frame the Bison struck for two runs on three hits against Adkins to retie the game 8-8.
OBU took the lead in the eighth inning on a two-out solo home run to center field.
The Weevils put the tying run on base in the top of the ninth on a leadoff single by Hudson Hopkins, but he was left stranded as UAM ultimately lost the series finale 9-8.
UAM won the series two game to one after sweeping a doubleheader Saturday.
Six different Weevils had multiple hits in game three of the series with Johnson leading the way going 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI.
Borman and Piraino each added a long ball of their own in the contest driving in three and two runs, respectively.
Adkins (L, 2-3) took the loss allowing three runs on six hits while striking out six in 4.0 innings pitched in relief.
Lundh surrendered six runs on five hits across 4.0 innings as the starter.
Tyler Frank (W, 3-0) earned the win giving up two runs on five hits in 4.0 innings out of the bullpen.
