MONTICELLO, Ark. - Great American Conference softball returns in the coming weeks and the UAM Blossoms are ready to take on the 2022 season.
The Blossoms open up the season on Tuesday, Feb. 5th in the Mike McGhee/Ronnie Hawkins Classic at Ouachita Baptist, playing Cameron University. GAC play begins Friday, February 25th as the Blossoms play a double header double header at home against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
UAM is coming off a (14-19) conference and (15-23) overall record season in 2021. The Blossoms placed 8th in the Great American Conference in 2021, being eliminated by Southern Arkansas 6-1 in the first round of the GAC tournament.
Familiar Faces - Some familiar faces are returning for the Weevils as key players, both in the line-up and on the mound. Among the players to look out for this season include:
Haley Cornell - A senior 1B/UTL player that has been with UAM since her freshman year. In 2021, Cornell led the Blossoms in both home runs, with 5, and slugging percentage, with .530. Her 15 RBIs contributed to UAM's 138 runs scored on the season. Cornell also earned All-Academic honors for the 2020-21 academic year.
Summer Perkins - A senior OF/UTL player that joined UAM after transferring from Eastern Oklahoma State College. Perkins also earned All-Academic honors for the 2020-21 academic year.
Caroline Tedder - A senior 1B/UTL player that has also been with UAM since her freshman year. Tedder also earned All-Academic honors for the 2020-21 academic year.
Jamie Franks - A senior pitcher that joined UAM in the 2021 season. Franks had a 6-7 record for the 2021 season with the Blossoms and led the pitching staff in strikeouts on the year with 48. Franks also earned All-Academic honors for the 2020-21 academic year.
Alexis Pevehouse - A junior pitcher that has been with UAM since her freshman year (2020). Pevehouse had a 5-4 record for the 2021 season with the Blossoms, striking out 37 batters on the year. Pevehouse also earned All-Academic honors for the 2020-21 academic year.
Bailey Camp - A sophomore MIF voted ALL-GAC Honorable Mention in the 2021 season. In 2021, Camp led the Blossoms in both batting average, with a .354, and on-base percentage, with a .432. Her 11 RBIs and 17 runs contributed to UAM's 138 runs scored on the season. Camp also earned All-Academic honors for the 2020-21 academic year.
Pre-Season Poll - The Cotton Blossoms were voted 8th overall in the 2022Â GAC Pre-Season Poll and look to make a run for another GAC Conference Tournament appearance.
