Blossoms Dominate in Win over Baptist Bible College

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball Team hosted Baptist Bible College in Steelman Field House on Tuesday afternoon. The Blossoms took on the Patriots, coming out with a 87-70 win on the day.

Newcomer Joi Montgomery led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (3-6, 0-3 GAC) with 14 points on the night. She went 5-7 on shots within two-point range and 4-4 on shots from the line. She also contributed a team-leading nine rebounds and two assists in the match.

Bailey Harris and Nyah Banks posted 12 points each in the match. Harris went 6-14 on field goals with seven rebounds. Banks contributed 5-8 on two-pointers and 2-4 on threes with three rebounds and four assists.

Azaria Hulbert was the final Blossom with double digit points, scoring 10 in her performance on Tuesday. She went 4-6 on field goals and 2-3 on three-pointers with an assist.
 
Baptist Bible was led by Abby Woolsey with 22 points.

The Blossoms were the first team to put points on the board in the opening quarter when they scored back-to-back layups from both Joi Montgomery and Cyarah Kensmil. Baptist Bible climbed their way back to a one point deficit at 17-16, but were unable to reclaim the lead for the remainder of the half. UAM came out 10-19 on field goals, 2-7 on threes and 4-4 on free throws. The two teams would head into the second quarter with Monticello on top 26-16.

The second quarter was the lowest scoring quarter of the game. The Patriots were able to outscore the Blossoms in the second ten minutes 18 points to 16. UAM shot for only 29% of their field goals throughout the quarter. Baptist Bible would shoot for 60% in their performance. The teams would finish the half and head to the locker rooms with Arkansas-Monticello on top, 42-34.

The third quarter proved to once again go the Blossoms way as they would outscore the Patriots, 22-18 in the third ten minute period of the game. Baptist Bible would only go 7-15 on field goals, compared to Arkansas-Monticello's 10-24.

The fourth and final quarter of the game was an action packed 10 minutes. Taylor East would find two free throws just twelve seconds in to score the first points of the quarter. The Blossoms would fight throughout the final fourth of the game, outscoring the visiting Baptist Bible 23-18, eventually coming out on top of the match with a final score of 87-70.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 11 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to action at Steelman Field House on Saturday, December 17 when they host in-state, Great American Conference foe, Ouachita Baptist University. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
