Weevils Battle Back, but Fall in Heartbreaking, Buzzer Beater Fashion to the Bison

The UAM Men's Basketball team came up short in their Great American Conference match-up with Oklahoma Baptist University on Thursday, 63-62

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's basketball team came out with a loss in their Thursday, Great American Conference match-up with Oklahoma Baptist University in heartbreak fashion.

UAM came out of the match with a 10-14 record on the season and 6-10 in GAC standings. The Weevils had three players score in double digits, putting on an incredible display of basketball. The Weevils played a fantastic game, battling back, but would lose as the Bison would hit a 3 with 0:01 second left on the clock.

Cole Anderson, Ray Priceand Jesse White each reached double figures for Arkansas-Monticello.

Anderson totaled 16 points and lead the Weevils in a dominant performance in the paint, going 8-12 on field goals with 4 rebounds and a block in 35 minutes played. He has now scored double figures in 8 games.

Price tallied 14 points as well, being his 13th game to reach 10-plus points for the Weevils this season. Going 6-11 on field goals, 2-3 on shots from three-point territory, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, it's no wonder Price played such a big role in Thursday night's game.

White put up 14 points of his own for UAM, going 6-9 on field goals and 2-4 on three-pointers. He would also snag 5 rebounds in the game.

The first half of the match was an absolute thrilling display of basketball, as the lead was swapped ten different times, with no more than a four point difference between the two. The Weevils were the first to score, as Jeese White scored a jump shot in two-point territory. Though OBU was quick to tie the game back up. As the half continued, we saw UAM go 64% on field goals. They would hit 16 out of 25 attempts, as well was 1-2 on three-point shots. OBU pushed back, taking the control back from UAM with 2:19 left on the clock. They would hold on to that lead for the rest of the half. The Weevils were able to put up 33 points throughout the entirety, down 36-33 as the two teams would head into the locker room.

The second half proved to be an impressive display of basketball, with a back and forth fight between Oklahoma Baptist and Arkansas-Monticello. The Bison was able to hold their lead for the first five minutes, extending to a 5 point lead over the Weevils. With 14:21 on the clock, Monticello would take back the lead. A 12-0 run from OBU would put them up 56-45; an 11 point lead over UAM. The Weevils would come back with an 8-0 run of their own, refusing to let the Oklahoma team get comfortable. Two good free-throws from Wesley Booker gave UAM a 62-58 lead with 1:33 left on the clock. With a Monticello lead of 62-60, a three would be hit by Oklahoma Baptist with 0:01 left on the clock, giving the Bison a 63-62 lead. The match would conclude with that as the final score.

A heartbreaking finish for an incredibly fought, well played game for the Weevils.
