Box Score 2 HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello softball program opened up 2022 GAC play by taking two wins away from Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Sunday, winning the first 11-7, and the second 8-0.
In Game 1, UAM struggled to find a gap in the first two innings, but found their stride as the game continued. The Blossoms pushed 4 runs across in the third inning.
Madison Morrissey,
Hannah Holdbrook,
Grace Neal, and
Caroline Tedder each scored to give Monticello a 4-0 lead. The Lady Rangers answered back in the top of the next inning with 5 runs of their own.
The Blossoms would score 3 runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take a dominating lead of 11-7 ver NWOSU. The 3 run home run from
Grace Neal was the icing on top of the cake to give the Blossoms a lead that would eventually win them the game.
Sam Stephens started for UAM, posting 3.0 innings, and only allowing 4 runs on 3 hits.
Maguire Estill entered the game in fourth, getting 1.0 innings thrown and two strike outs.
Maddie Chaleburg only threw for a short period of time, totaling 2 runs on 3 hits.
Averie Gunther was the final pitcher of the match, finishing out the game with 3.0 innings pitched and no hits allowed.
Game 2 was an even faster display of power for UAM as they would run-rule NOWSU 8-0 in five innings. The Blossoms would score in four of the five innings. The biggest runs coming from
Grace Neal as she provided her second 3-run home run of the day to increase the UAM lead by 3.
A handful of walks, stolen bases, and timely hitting would give the Blossoms a run-rule win on the series.
Jamie Franks started Game 2 and threw herself an absolute gem of a game, dishing out 5.0 innings of work. She struck out two, allowing six hits.

The Blossoms return to the field on Monday, Feb. 28 for their final match-up of their NWOSU series. The game is set to begin at Alvy Early Softball Field at 11:00 AM.
