Two Home Runs For Cornell as Blossoms Fall to the Bisons in Day 1 of GAC Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEARCY, AR. – Arkansas-Monticello fell to the Harding University Bisons in Games 1 & 2 of their GAC series. The Blossoms fell in the first match, 8-1, and also in the second match, 10-5.

Game 1
The Blossoms struggled to find their offensive momentum in the first game on Friday. They were only able to score a single run throughout the entirety of the match. The run came in the fourth inning when Hannah Holdbrook scored on a ground ball from Caroline Tedder.

Harding would put up seven runs in the bottom half of the inning. No other runs were scored throughout the game.

UAM would fall to HU, 8-1, to start off the GAC series.

Game 2
UAM was the first to score in Game 2 when Haley Cornell smashed a two-run home run to left field. Averie Gunther was the second run to score.

Harding scored a run of their own in the first inning, another in the second, and three more in the third.

The Blossoms scored their final three runs of the game in the fifth inning when Haley Cornell hit her second home run of the game, scoring both Grace Neal and Averie Gunther alongside her. This home run increasing her RBI total to five runs on the day.

The Bisons scored five more runs in the match, eventually taking down UAM, 10-5.

Pitching Performances
Sam Stephens started in the circle for the Blossoms, posting 3.2 innings on the day. Stephens gave up 5 runs on 9 hits to the Bisons in her outing.
Averie Gunther finished out the last inning of the match, allowing zero 0 runs on 1 hit. She struck out two batters.

Maddie Chalenburg started on the rubber for the Blossoms, tossing 2.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits.
Alexis Pevehouse took over in the circle in the third, throwing 1.2 innings. She allowed 2 runs on 3 hits.
Jamie Franks had a short outing herself of 0.2 inning. She only allowed 1 hit.
Averie Gunther took on the final inning of the game. She allowed 3 runs on 3 hits.

The two losses on the day drop Arkansas-Monticello to 16-20 on the season and 10-9 in GAC play.

On Deck
The Blossoms return to the field on Saturday, Apr. 2nd as they finish up the GAC Series against Harding University at Harding Softball Field. The game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
