BETHANY, Okla. – The Arkansas-Monticello Baseball team splits the day with Southern Nazarene University on Friday afternoon to open up their GAC weekend series. UAM would win the first game in home run fashion, 18-6, and fall in the second match, 11-6.
Game 1
UAM was the first to score in Game 1, putting a run on the board in the first inning.
Cade Thompson launched a double into the right center gap to score
Chase Cripps.
The Crimson Storm struck back in the bottom of the inning, scoring 2 runs of their own to reclaim the lead. They also scored another run in the second inning.
A
Nick Fakouri home run to left center in the fourth was the start of a Monticello rally.
David Reyna was the next to score as he touched home on a Southern Nazarene error.
Reece Reading hit a single to score
Cade Thompson and
Grant Shepherd sent a ball over the wall for a 3 run home run to give the Weevils a 7-3 lead as the inning would come to an end.
The Weevils would score 2 more runs in the fifth inning as both
David Reyna and
BJ Lee would each hit a solo home run. SNU would score a run in the bottom of the inning.
Fakouri would kick off the sixth inning with a 2 run home run that would score
Hudson Hopkins, his second home run of the game.
BJ Lee would score on a
Chase Cripps double to center field. Cripps would score on a
Jordan Johnson single through the left side and
Cade Thompson crossed home on a passed ball. UAM comes out of the inning with a 14-4 lead.
Reece Reading and
Cade Thompson both scored in the eighth thanks to a
Hudson Hopkins single up the middle, Shepherd scored on a
David Reyna hit-by-pitch, and Hopkins scored on a
BJ Lee walk to score the final Monticello runs of the game, increasing their lead to 18-5.
SNU would hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, but were unable to retake the lead from UAM. The Weevils would eventually take the win, 18-6.
Game 2
The Weevils once again struck first as
Hudson Hopkins would score on a
David Reyna SAC fly ball in the second.
Southern Nazarene scored 4 runs in the third inning.
Reece Reading hit a solo home run, followed by a
David Reyna single to score
Hudson Hopkins as the Weevils brought the score back to 4-3.
A 6 run inning in the fifth inning gave the Storm a comfortable 10-3 lead.
BJ Lee ripped a double into left center to score both
David Reyna and
Hudson Hopkins and a
Cade Thompson single up the middle would score Lee to give Monticello their final 3 runs of the game.
The Storm would score a run in the bottom of the inning and would eventually win the match, 11-6.
Pitching Performance
Derek Potts started on the mound in Game 1, totaling 7.0 innings pitched with 5 runs allowed on 13 hits. He stuck out a season high 11 batters.
Cameron Johnson entered the game in the eighth, throwing 1.0 innings with 1 run allowed on 1 hits.
Spencer Johnston started game 2, dishing out 4.0 innings, allowing 8 runs on 9 hits. He struck out 4 batters.
Rigell Robinson entered the game in the fifth, throwing 1.1 innings with 3 runs allowed on 4 hits.
Trent Bunting was the final pitcher on the day, tossing 0.2 inning with 0 runs and 0 hits.

The split on the day pushes Arkansas-Monticello to 17-20 on the season and 12-14 in GAC conference play.
