Walk-Off Walk Leads to a Boll Weevil Win Over the Bisons in Game 1

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello baseball team took down Oklahoma Baptist University in Game 1 of their three game, GAC series on Friday. The Weevils put on a show at the plate, with an impressive outing on the mound from Derek Potts. UAM kept the Bison bats at bay with a 10-1 win in eight innings.

UAM was the first team on the board, putting up a commanding 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Grant Shepherd started off the carnage when he drove in both Cade Thompson and Jordan Johnson on a double to left field. Reece Reading scored when Mick Fakouri reached on an error by the third baseman, Shepherd scored on a David Reyna bunt single to the first baseman and Fakouri scored on a DeShaun Cordova single to right field. The final runs of the inning came when Reyna scored on a Grant Jeffers single through the left side and Cordova scored on a Chase Cripps fly out.

Jordan Johnson scored the eighth Weevil run in the second on a Nick Fakouri fly out to right field.

Oklahoma Baptist took a run in the third, but UAM struck back in the fourth when Johnson scored again on a Shepherd fly out to center field.

The final runs of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning when Jordan Johnson doubled down the right field line to score Cade Thompson and Johnson scored the game winner on a Nick Fakouri walk.

Arkansas-Monticello would win the game 10-1.

Pitching Performances
Derek Potts started on the mound, totaling 7.0 innings pitched with only 1 run allowed on 2 hits. He stuck out 8 batters and had 4 walks.
Jack Barna closed out the last 1.0 inning of the game for the Weevils with no runs allowed and no hits.

The victory pushes Arkansas-Monticello to 19-20 on the season and 14-14 in GAC play.
