Box Score 2 WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Arkansas-Monticello dropped day 1 of their GAC series with South Western Oklahoma Sate University, falling in both in games 1 and 2. The Blossoms would lose the first game 13-5 and the second match, 7-4.
Game 1
UAM came out hot in the first game, scoring 5 runs in the top of the first inning to take a lead on the Bulldogs.
Hannah Holdbrook scored the first run of the game when
Haley Cornell reached on a fielders choice, followed by
Maddie Pfleging scoring on a throwing error during a
Grace Neal ground out. Cornell scored on a
Lauryn Davies single, and the final runs of the inning came from
Averie Gunther and
Caroline Tedder as they both crossed home on a
Madison Gardiner single to center field.
SWOSU responded in the bottom of the first inning with 6 runs of their own.
The Blossoms were unable to score another run for the remainder of the match, as the Bulldogs would find another 4 runs in the fourth and 3 runs in the fifth to win the game in 5 innings.
Game 2
Arkansas-Monticello was the first to score in the second game as well, scoring 2 runs in the second. A pair of walks from
Maddie Pfleging and
Haley Cornell would score
Shae Shoquist and
Christa Lannon.
The Bulldogs found a run in the bottom half of the inning, as well as another run in the third to tie the game at 2.
Haley Cornell launched a two run home run over the center field wall, scoring Holdbrook on the blast as well.
SWOSU responded with 5 more runs over their next two offensive appearances, eventually winning the game, 7-4, as UAM was unable to put any more on the board.
Pitching Performances
Jamie Franks started on the rubber in game 1, totaling 0.2 inning with 6 runs allowed on 7 hits.
Alexis Pevehouse took over next, tossing 2.1 innings with 4 runs allowed on 6 hits.
Maddie Chalenburg closed out the final 1.1 innings of the game, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits.
Sam Stephens started in the circle for the Blossoms in game 2, posting 4.0 innings on the day. Stephens gave up 5 runs on 8 hits to the Bulldogs in her outing.
Chandler Weast tossed 0.1 inning of her own, allowing 2 runs.
Kyann Woods finished out the last 1.2 innings of the match, allowing 0 runs with 3 hits.
The pair of losses on the day drops Arkansas-Monticello to 17-31 on the season and 11-20 in GAC play.
On Deck
The Blossoms return to the field on Saturday, Apr. 30 for Game 3 with Southwestern Oklahoma State University to close out the Great American Conference 2022 season. The game is set to begin on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
