Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Arkansas-Monticello fell to the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Bulldogs to close out their final GAC series of the 2022 softball season. The Blossoms were only able to put up 8 runs in comparison to SWOSU's 9, losing the match in 7 innings.
UAM was the first team on the board as
Maddie Pfleging scored on a
Caroline Tedder ground ball.
Southwestern Oklahoma pulled into a dominant 8-1 lead as they responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning and found 4 more runs in the third.
The Blossoms weren't finished yet, as they shortened the SWOSU lead to 8-4 after scoring 3 in the fifth.
Hannah Holdbrook singled to center field to bring home
Grace Neal and
Caroline Tedder doubled to right, scoring both Holdbrook and Cornell.
Caroline Tedder launched a grand slam over the center field wall in the seventh to tie the game at 8, bringing home Holdbrook, Chalenburg, and Pfleging with her.
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs would win the game in the bottom half of the inning with a walk off single.
Pitching Performances
Averie Gunther started in the circle for the Blossoms in game 3, tossing 2.0 innings on the day with 5 runs allowed on 4 hits.
Sam Stephens took her chance on the mound, totaling only 0.1 inning with 3 runs allowed on 2 hits.
Kyann Woods finished out the last 4.1 innings of the match, allowing 1 runs on 8 hits. She struck out 4 batters.
The loss on the day drops Arkansas-Monticello to 17-32 on the season and 11-21 in GAC play as the regular season comes to an end.
On Deck
Based on their performance on the year, the Blossoms punched their ticket to the 2022 Great American Conference Championship Series in Bentonville, Arkansas. Their first game will be Thursday, May 5th at 1:30.
