MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball team hosted out-of-state, Great American Conference foe Southeastern Oklahoma State University in their seventh conference match-up of the 2022-23 season. The Weevils came out of the evening with an 83-55 loss to the Savage Storm.
Newcomer
Timur Krupalija led the Weevils (5-8, 1-6 GAC) in Thursday night's match-up with a high scoring double-double performance. Krupalija dominated the paint, scoring 23 points and racking up 10 total rebounds. He shot for 9-16 on field goals, with over 50% of his free throws (5-9) falling on the night. The Bosnian native put on a dominant show for the Weevils, looking to continue his show of control in the paint on Saturday against East Central University in the Weevils' 8th conference matchup of the season.
Southeastern (7-5,4-3 GAC) was led by
Kyle Leslie with 18 points.
The first half of the match began with a foul by Southeastern that led to the first UAM point of the game from a free throw attempt of the evening. UAM would go on to score four more points thanks to a basket in the paint from both
Isaac Jackson and
Cole Anderson. Southeastern would respond with a layup and free throw to put them up 6-5. The Storm would lose the advantage for a brief moment thanks to a solid three pointer from Jackson and a monstrous dunk from Krupalija, putting the Weevils up 10-6. Southeastern would find seven uncontested points to reclaim a 15-10 lead. Arkansas-Monticello and Southeastern would go on to exchange field goals up to until just before the 11th minute when Southeastern began to break away, outscoring the Weevils 41 to 28 in the first half.
The second half of the ball game opened with back-to-back Krupalija layups for the Weevils. Southeastern reacted with eight points of their own and UAM would find a handful of three-pointers. The Savage Storm would go on to finish the half scoring 42 points compared to the home teams 27. The Weevils would shoot 40% on field goals and 55% from the free throw line in the half. Arkansas-Monticello's bench would finish the evening with 29 points. The game eventually came to a close with the Storm on top for an 83-55 win over the Weevils.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 14 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to the court on Saturday, January 14 when they host out-of-state Great American Conference member East Central University at Steelman Field House. The match will tip off at 3:00 p.m.
