Volleyball Drops Monday Match-Up with Texas A&M International

Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team hosted Texas A&M International University on Friday afternoon for a non-conference game. The Blossoms played three total sets, dropping the game to the Dust Devils 3-0.

The opening set started with Texas A&M International taking an early lead over Arkansas-Monticello. The Dust Devils continued this lead going into the mid point of the set, when a huge kill by Evalyn Dang gave the Blossoms some life. An ace by Bruna Silva and couple massive kills by Jasmine Welton gave the blossoms a three point streak as the set continued. The Dust Devils held on to their for the remainder of the set, taking set one 25-7. 

Set two began with a quick exchange of points between both teams as they both fought for control of the set. This exchange of points continued all through the first half of the set, when the Dust Devils took a two point lead. Another kill from Evalyn Dang and a massive block by Campbell Horn and Kerrigan Biggs tied the game back up 8-8. TAMIU regained the lead but UAM was right there with them going into the middle part of the set. The Dust Devils broke away with the lead going into the back half of the set, winning 25-14.

The final set started with and early 5-0 lead by the visiting team. The Blossoms weren't backing down, as an ace serve by Alana Steemer and a big time kill by Jasmine Welton put the Blossoms back in the game. They kept that momentum going with another kill, this time from Abrielle Jordan. A block by Evalyn Dang put the Blossoms up 10-9. The Dust Devils took the lead going into the middle of the set, but the Blossoms weren't far behind. TAMIU, unfortunately, remained in control for the remainder of the set, winning 25-14.  

Campbell Horn led the Blossoms in kills with 6 on the night.

Bruna Silva contributed 8 assists in the match.

Defensively, the Blossoms were led by Stasha Adams with 13 digs of her own on the night.

UP NEXT
Arkansas-Monticello is back in action this Thursday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Bethany, Oklahoma to face Great American Conference member Southern Nazarene University. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
