MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball team hosted Williams Baptist College on Saturday afternoon for the Turkey Special. The Weevils came out with a 73-66 loss to the Eagles.
Isaac Jackson once again led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (1-3) with 19 points, going 8-15 on total field goals and 3-6 from the free point line. He also contributed four offensive and one defensive rebound on top of an assist and a steal in his 25 minutes played.
Zane Nelson,
Cole Anderson, and
Josh Denton all contributed 10 points of their own throughout the game. Nelson went 4-12 on field goals and went 2-5 on free throws with six rebounds and two steals. Anderson saw 4-of-6 shots from close range fall and both free throws hit in the game, while grabbing two rebounds. Denton led the team in threes, hitting two on the day, alongside both of his free throws and one shot from two-point range. He also posted an assist, a block, and a steal in the match-up.
Williams Baptist was led by
Ben Keton with 20 points.
The visiting Eagles scored the first points of the game on a three to take an early lead. The Blossoms struggled to find their stride throughout the opening of the half, but saw their first lead after a jumper from
AK Hazely. UAM was unable to retain the advantage, seeing the Eagle take control away at the 10:00 mark. Arkansas-Monticello prevailed in the end, capturing the lead from Williams Baptist on two made free throws from Hazely. The Boll Weevils shot for 39% in the first half, hitting 11-28 field goals, compared the the Eagles' 8-23. The teams would head to the locker rooms with UAM on top, 31-29.
The second 20 minutes saw an aggressive display of basketball between the two teams, with 79 points scored between them.
Isaac Jackson scored the first basket of the half, pushing the Weevil lead to four. UAM held control for the opening five minutes before the advantage shifted into the Eagles favor. Arkansas-Monticello saw their final lead of the game when
Zane Nelson drained a two with 5:17 left on the clock. Although UAM outperformed WBC in field goal percentage, hitting 50% compared to the Eagles' 45%, the visiting team out shot UAM from three-point range six to one. The Boll Weevils would conclude the game with a 73-66 loss to Williams Baptist College.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 20 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday, Nov. 30 to open Great American Conference play against the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
