MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team hosted the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith on Saturday afternoon. The Blossoms came out with a 61-53 victory over the Lions.
Returning junior,
Bailey Harris, led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (4-2) with 19 points, going 7-17 on total field goals and 5-6 on free throws. She also contributed an incredible, team leading, 16 rebounds on the afternoon, with four offensive and 12 defensive rebounds. She also contributed an assist and a steals in her 38 minutes played.
Alindsey Long posted 12 points of her own on the game, hitting 5-14 field goals and 2-10 three-pointers on the game. Long also gave the Blossoms three steals.
Alyssia Thorne was the final Blossom in double-digits, scoring 10 points against the Lions. Harris hit 4-10 field goals and 2-2 shots from the line with five offensive and five defensive rebounds for the teams second double-double on the night, two blocks, two steals, and an assist.
University of Arkansas - Fort Smith (2-4) was led by
Baylee Fincher with 12 points.
The first quarter began with the Lions hitting the first shot of the game on a layup, but saw the Blossoms respond on the next possession with a jumper of their own from
Alindsey Long. After a short-lived lead for UAM, Fort Smith saw 11 straight points to take a 13-4 lead. Arkansas-Monticello trailed for the remainder of the quarter, going 3-21 for field goals and only one of eleven three pointers. The teams would head into the second ten minutes with the Lions on top, 13-9.
The Blossoms prevailed in quarter two, out scoring the Lions 17-12 throughout the second ten minute period. Long put UAM back within one after hitting a three for the first basket of the quarter. Harris closed out the half with a jumper to put Arkansas-Monticello on top. The Blossoms improved on field goals for the quarter, hitting 50% of their shots, going 7-14. The teams would finish the half and head to the locker rooms with the home team leading, 26-25.
UAM once again outscored UAFS in the third quarter. The Blossoms saw
Alyssia Thorne score the first point of the half on a layup nearly two minutes in. UAM went 7-20 on field goals, besting the Lions, 16-14.
The fourth quarter proved to be the highest scoring quarter of the game, with a combined total of 34 points between the two. The match eventually come to an close with the Blossoms on top, 61-53. The Blossoms improve their home record to 3-0 on the year.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 18 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday, Nov. 30 to take open Great American Conference play against Arkansas Tech University. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
