Weevils Come Up Short to the Crimson Storm on Senior Day

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team played their final home game of the 2023 season on Saturday afternoon when the Boll Weevils hosted Great American Conference member Southern Nazarene University. UAM came out of the contest with a 41-14 loss to the Crimson Storm.

Southern Nazarene was the first to score and held on to the lead for the remainder of the game. The Boll Weevils put points of their own on the board thanks to a pick-6 in the second quarter. The Arkansas-Monticello offense would put up only 283 total offensive yards in the match-up. Arlie Lee contributed the lone offensive touchdown on the game for the Weevils, scoring on a 36-yard reception in the third quarter.

Austin Wadsworth and Caden Middleton combined for a 21-37 performance with 233 passing yards. Arlie Lee led UAM in receiving for five receptions and 87 total yards, with the longest being a 36-yarder. Jovonnie Gibson was close behind with five receptions for 70 total yards. On the ground, Tristan Smith once again led the Boll Weevils, having 15 carries for a net total of 43 yards.

Defensively, Damarous White stood above the rest with eight total tackles and seven solo stops on the game. Alfernee Hankins had six solo tackles and two sacks on the game.

Zachary Grisotti led the day in extra point attempts, going 2-2.

Boll Weevil Head Coach Hud Jackson had this to say after the game: "I am proud our guys played hard. Lots of experience earned by our players. Peeks and valleys of this season have been many, but we are grateful to have those moments. Those moments will make us better. We will grow from this and work hard this week to give ourselves a chance in the rivalry game. We will not let this keep us from understanding the value of adversity. Our players are the best and I will do everything in my power to make them successful. They deserve it. Eat'em up!"
