ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team continued GAC play on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to Henderson State University. The Blossoms came out with a 97-69 loss to the Reddies.
Returning junior,
Bailey Harris, once again led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (4-4) with 16 points, going 6-14 on total field goals, 1-3 on threes, and 3-3 from the free throw line. She also contributed six rebounds on the afternoon, with two offensive and four defensive. She also contributed an assist in her 31 minutes played.
Alindsey Long followed close behind, posting 15 points of her own on the game. She hit 7-15 field goals1-14 three-pointers on the game while giving the Blossoms one steal.
Alyssia Thorne was the final Blossom in double-digits, scoring 11 points against the Reddies. Thorne hit 5-9 field goals and 1-1 shots from the line with five offensive and four defensive rebounds on the night with a block, a steal, and an assist.
Henderson State (5-3) was led by
Tori Gittens with 17 points.
The first quarter was the highest scoring period of the game, with 48 total points scored between the two teams. The Blossoms scored the first points of the game thanks to a layup from
Kelsey Blakemore, but would see the score tie eight different times before the Reddies pulled ahead to close out the opening 10 minutes.
Quarter two proved to once again go to Henderson State as they would outscore Monticello, 26-14. The teams would finish the half and head to the locker rooms with the Reddies leading, 52-36.
For the third quarter in a row, the home team would prevail, once again outscoring the Blossoms. UAM shot for 44% of field goals compared to HSU's 38%, but would only score 15 points to their 19.
Henderson State saw a 26 point quarter for the third time of the game while UAM was only able to post 18. The game came to an end with the Reddies on top, 97-69.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to Steelman Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 9 when they host in-state Great American Conference member Harding University. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
