ADA, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball team traveled to Ada, Oklahoma to take on Great American Conference member East Central University on Thursday afternoon. The Boll Weevils came out of their sixteenth GAC match-up of the 2022-23 season with an 56-44 win over the Tigers.
Isaac Jackson once again led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (9-13, 5-11 GAC) with 18 points in his Thursday evening performance. Jackson shot 6-13 field goals, 3-4 on shots from beyond-the-arc, and hit 3-3 free throws. He also contributed six defensive rebounds on top of a steal.
Mario Fantina put up 14 points of his own against the Tigers, hitting 5-10 field goals and going 4-9 on three pointers. He also had one offensive and one defensive rebound on top of three assists.
Cole Anderson was the final Boll Weevil to score double-digits on Thursday, posting 10 points. Anderson was 5-6 on field goals and 0-1 on free throws with seven total rebounds and a block.
East Central (12-10, 7-9 GAC) was led by
Keyon Thomas with a 13 point performance.
The opening 20 minutes of the game began with East Central finding a rebound on their second possession of the match-up. Seven straight points for the Weevils would give them back the lead, and they would keep control of the match for the remainder of the first half UAM the early 4-point advantage. UAM would push their lead to a half-high 13 points before coming to a close up 11. The first half would come to a close with Arkansas-Monticello shooting for 56.5% on field goals compared to the Tigers 36% on the half. The teams would head to the locker room with the Weevils on top 34-23.
The second half began with the Tigers finding three straight baskets to cut down the Boll Weevil lead by 7 points. The teams would go back and forth before the Weevils found a 7-0 run, followed by another 10-0 run ending in two Josh Denton free throws to give UAM their biggest lead of the contest at 21 points. Arkansas-Monticello would not find a basket for the remaining four minutes, while ECU scored nine more points. The match would come to a close with Ray Price stealing back the ball, giving Arkansas-Monticello a win with a final score of 56-44.
Arkansas-Monticello committed only 18 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to the court on Saturday, February 11 when they travel to Durant, Oklahoma to take on Great American Conference member Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The match will tip off at 3:00 p.m.
