Seventh Inning Rally Leads Weevils to a Win in the Final Home Game of the Season

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team hosted Mississippi College for a midweek game on Tuesday afternoon. The Weevils came out of their final home game of the 2023 season with a 10-3 win over the Choctaws.

Scoring Recap:
Mississippi College scored first, posting an RBI in the third on a ground out to the left side of the infield.

The Choctaws found two more runs in the fourth on ground ball to second, with the second scoring on a throwing error.

Alex Austin put the Weevils on the board in the sixth with a 2 RBI double to center field.

Arkansas-Monticello rallied in the seventh to score eight runs. Cade Thompson kicked off the inning with an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3. Chase Cripps brought home two runs across the plate on a single to left center. A grand slam from Alex Austin, aka Big Al, gave the Weevil a 9-3 lead with one out. Walker Brown followed up with a home run of his own, going back-to-back with Austin on a solo shot over the scoreboard in right center field. The inning came to a close with the Boll Weevils leading 10-3.

The visiting Mississippi College was unable to answer the UAM offense for the remainder of the game, resulting in a Boll Weevil Victory.

Pitching Performances
- Zach Boyer started on the mound, throwing 3.0 total innings in his outing. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits with a strikeout.
- Matt Huey tossed 3.0 innings for the Weevils, giving up 3 hits and 0 earned runs with 3 strikeouts.
- Charles Peacock saw 2.0 innings of work, allowing only 1 hit with 5 strikeouts.
- Ryan Mesaris closed out the final inning of the game, giving up 0 runs and 0 hits.
