RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team traveled to Russellville, Arkansas to take on in-state, Great American Conference foe Arkansas Tech University in the first conference match of the 2023 season on Tuesday evening. The Blossoms played three total sets and ended up with a loss to the Golden Suns.
The opening set began with the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech taking a quick lead, but was quickly followed by the Blossoms climbing back to a one-point deficit at 8-7. ATU outscored UAM 6-1 over the next seven points, but thanks to a handful of attack errors and service aces, the Blossoms tied the set back up at 15-all. Set two started off with a near identical stat line as the first, with Arkansas Tech taking a 4-1 lead, followed by the Blossoms climbing back to an 8-7 game. The Golden Suns held powered through the remainder of the set, taking a 2-0 lead on UAM as the second set closed with a final score of 25-14.
The third and final set proved to be a much more evenly matched attack from both teams. UAM would see an early 2-1 lead, as well as a second lead at 9-8 later in the set. Six straight ATU points would give the home team an advantage, but the Blossoms played their way back to a 23-20 game. The set would end with a 25-20 final score and a 3-0 loss to Arkansas Tech.
Jasmine Welton once again led the Blossoms in kills with 10 on the night.
