Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team hosted rival and in-state, Great American Conference member Southern Arkansas University on Thursday evening. The Blossoms played four total sets, dropping the rivalry games against the Muleriders.
The opening set began with Southern Arkansas taking a quick lead, but was abruptly followed by the Blossoms climbing back to a three-point lead at 10-7 after a 6 point streak. The Muleriders responded with seven straight points of their own, putting them back ahead of the Blossoms again 14-10. Unfortunately, the UAM was unable to control the remainder of the set, falling 25-17.
Set two started off with a near identical stat line as the first, with SAU taking a 5-0 lead before Arkansas-Monticello could find a point. The Blossoms weren't taking no for an answer, climbing their way back to a tie game at 15-15. The eight point streak that got the Blossoms back in the game came from a combination of two kills by
Jasmine Welton and one kill a-piece from
Jalen Scroggins and
Abrielle Jordan. The Muleriders and the Blossoms continued to trade points back and forth to fight for control over the set. This home crowd was fired up throughout the duration of the set, with some big time
Kerrigan Biggs blocks, along with some key kills by
Evalyn Dang and
Campbell Horn only prompting the audience on farther. This exciting set ended with the Blossoms on top with a 28-26 win, tying the match at 1-1.
Set three started off hot again with another back and forth battle between the Blossoms and Muleriders. SAU would see an early 5-1 lead, as well as a second lead at 18-13 later in the set. The Blossoms weren't able to recover from the last push by the Muleriders and ended up dropping the set 25-18.
The fourth and final set started off with the Muleriders scoring first and gaining a 5-2 lead. A strong battle by the Blossoms brought them back in the game, down 5-4 to the Muleriders, before the visitors found a seven point streak. The Muleriders held control for the remainder of the set and winning 25-13, with a 3-1 win over the Blossoms.
Jasmine Welton once again led the Blossoms in kills with 16 on the night.
Jordan Wehr contributed 17 assists in the match, followed by
Ariana Compean with 15 assists of her own.
Defensively, the Blossoms were led by
Jasmine Welton and Jordan Wehr, collecting 15 digs each for the Blossoms, following right behind was
Stasha Adams with 14 digs of her own on the night.

Arkansas-Monticello is back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Searcy, Arkansas to take on fellow GAC member Harding University. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
