Boll Weevils Fall to #4 Ouachita Baptist

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Football Team Drops their Week 4 Match-Up, 45-25, to the Tigers at home

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team hosted Great American Conference member, and the #4 nationally ranked Ouachita Baptist University Tigers on Saturday evening. The Boll Weevils came out of the contest with a final score of 45-25, dropping their 2023 record to 2-2.

Arkansas-Monticello struggled to stop the top-5 ranked offense in the first quarter, falling behind 21-0 in the opening 15 minutes. Offensive momentum was found in the second quarter as the Weevils outscored the Tigers 13-10, followed by a 6 point advantage in the third. Ouachita Baptist won the final quarter of the game as well, out-scoring Arkansas-Monticello 14-7. The offense would put up 452 total offensive yards in the match-up. Falling 34 yards short of the visiting Tigers' total of 486.

Brown gave a 22-38 performance with 247 passing yards, throwing for one touchdown. Brown was also the leading rusher for the Boll Weevils, totaling 154 net yards on the ground with two touchdowns. Nick Howard led UAM in receiving with four receptions, and a long of 22 yards, for 62 total yards. Kristian Gammage had the longest reception of the game with a 34-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.

Defensively, Damarous White stood above the rest with eight total tackles and seven solo stops on the night.

Dylan Duhon led the day in extra points, going 1-2.

Boll Weevil Head Coach Hud Jackson had this to say after the game: "Thought our guys played hard. But we have to finish plays. Football comes down to blocking and tackling. We have some guys who are tough and love this team. Because of that we will be ok. Can't wait to get back to work!! We will control our future. Eat'em up!"

  • 05:49 – OUA | Blake Delacruz gave the Bisons a two touchdown lead on am 8-yard rush.
  • 03:40 – OUA | Kendel Givens rushed 16 yards into the endzone to increse the OUA lead to three touchdowns.
Second Quarter
  • 05:01 – UAM | Demilon Brown rushed 20 yards for a touchdown to put the Weevils on the board, closing an 11 play, 80-yard series.
  • 04:51 – OUA | Carter McElhany returned the kickoff for a 94-yard touchdown.
  • 01:02 – UAM | Arlie Lee gave the Weevils a second touchdown on a 1-yard rush in the red zone to cap off an 11 play, 81-yard drive.
  • 00:00 – OUA | Gabe Goodman kicked a 27-yard field goal to close the half.
Third Quarter
  • 02:04 – UAM | Demilon Brown rushed 27 yards for his second touchdown on the groud after a seven play, 78-yard push.
Fourth Quarter
  • 14:20 – OUA | Kendel Givens scored his second rushing touchdown of the night.
  • 12:44 – UAM | Kristian Gammage pulled in a 34-yard heave from Brown to score for UAM. Ending a four play, 81-yard run.
  • 07:06 – OUA | Eli Livingston scored the final touchdown of the gam on a 4-yard rushing touchdown.
Up Next
The Boll Weevils return to action at Willis "Convoy" Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium next Saturday when they host East Central University for the 2023 homecoming game. Homecoming festivities will take place all week building up to the big game, including the 2023 UAM Sports Hall of Fame Ceremony on Thursday. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
