Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball continued on with conference play on Thursday afternoon when they travel to compete against conference member Arkansas Tech University. The Weevils came out with a 67-50 loss to the Wonder Boys.
Zane Nelson led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (8-9, 6-6 GAC) with 16 points, going 4-11 on total field goals, 1-5 from beyond-the-arc, and 7-8 from the line. Nelson also contributed three rebounds, two assists, and three steals in his 37 minutes of play.
Isaac Jackson followed close behind, posting 11 points of his own for the Boll Weevils. Jackson hit 4-9 total field goals, 2-4 threes, and 1-2 shots from the line with a rebound and a block.
Arkansas Tech (14-4, 10-2 GAC) was led by
Taelon Peter with 21 points.
The Wonder Boys scored the first points of the game on a jumper to take an early 0-3 lead. The Weevils quickly came back and reclaimed the lead after a few free throws and a layup from
Zane Nelson. UAM was unable to retain the advantage, seeing ATU take control for the rest of the first half, but the Weevils stayed within reach of the lead throughout the entirety of the opening 20 minutes. The teams were sent to the locker rooms with ATU leading, 33-14.
The second 20 minutes saw an aggressive display of basketball between the two teams, with 70 points scored between them. Arkansas Tech held control for the rest of the half keeping their lead of 20 for most of the half. Arkansas-Monticello saw their final points of the game from
Donovan Cooper going 7-8 with 1:45 left in the game. The Weevils would conclude the game with a 67-50 loss to the Wonder Boys.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 15 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to conference play on Thursday, Feb. 1 when they travel to compete against out of state conference member Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
