MONTICELLO, Ark. - Arkansas-Monticello's volleyball team (4-11, 0-5 GAC ) dropped their match to the Harding University Bisons (12-5, 5-0 GAC ) by a score of 3-1 (16-25, 11-25, 25-20, 13-25) Saturday afternoon inside Steelman Fieldhouse.
The Blossoms were held to a .089 hitting percentage on 45 kills, alongside 1 ace, 4 blocks, and 84 digs.
Holiday Ellis led the Blossoms with 16 kills.
Jasmine Welton followed with 12 herself.
Mia Smalls assisted on 32 attacks and
Licia Echevarria recorded 18 digs, with
Valeria Velez also recording 17.
SET 1
The Blossoms started strong with a 9-6 lead, but the Bisons scored five unanswered points to take a 9-11 lead. Despite UAM tying the game 13-13, Harding held the Blossoms to just three more points 16-18. The Bisons would close the set with a point sweep to win, 25-16.
SET 2
Running off the momentum from the previous set, Harding led the scoreboard early, 7-1. Two kills from Holiday Ellis and a Harding attack error stopped the bleeding for the Blossoms, 4-7. The Bisons outscored the Blossoms 18-7 to take set two, 25-11, and a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET 3
Arkansas-Monticello would experience one of the most impressive sets of the 2024 campaign. It started with the Blossoms scoring four points off the Bisons early, 4-1. With Harding trying to take the set from them, UAM would take the scoreboard to 15-13. With the Bisons staying close in points, the commanding offense from the Blossoms killed 10 of the next 17 serves to give UAM a set three win, 25-20.
SET 4
The Blossoms could not keep up with the offense of the Bisons, seeing themselves down six early, 6-12. Harding would control the set with two three unanswered runs, keeping UAM at bay 10-21. Four more kills from the Bisons would secure the set, 25-13, and the match 3-1.
GAME NOTES
- This afternoon's match was the 41st meeting between the Blossoms and Bisons.
- Holiday Ellis earned her first double-double of the season on 16 kills and 13 digs.
- Licia Echevarria set a new career high in digs with 18.
- Valeria Velez also set a new career high in digs with 17.
