Volleyball Travels for Two Matches in Oklahoma

MONTICELLO, Ark. -  Arkansas-Monticello Volleyball (4-11, 0-5 GAC) will hit the road for end-of-week conference action against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a Friday afternoon game at Southwestern Oklahoma State University at 4 p.m.

"I'm really excited. We had a long week last week. We were able to come back home, rest & recover, & focus in more on the little things," said Head Coach Arlicia Ortiz. "We have two tough matches coming up this week, but I'm really excited to see how much we've grown."

LAST MEETING
Northwestern Oklahoma State University: NWOSU took the last meeting in Monticello 3-0 (23-25, 15-25, 13-25) on Oct. 20, 2023. UAM was led by outsider hitter Jasmine Welton with six kills, setters Meagan Adams and Jordan Wehr; combining for 11 assists, and senior Stasha Adams with 22 digs. The Rangers held the Blossoms to a -.044 hitting percentage on 24 kills, 24 assists, 54 digs, and 11 blocks. The Rangers managed to record the only serving aces of the night recording eight against UAM.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University: SWOSU was victorious over Arkansas-Monticello in Steelman Fieldhouse on Oct. 19, 2023, winning 3-0 (21-25, 11-25, 13-25). Former Blossom Campbell Horn led the Green and White with five kills, and Jordan Wehr contributed 10 assists. Stasha Adams led the Blossoms defensively with 16 digs on the night. The Bulldogs held the Blossoms to a -.063 hitting percentage on 23 kills, 20 assists, 49 digs, and 3 blocks. This match was the seventh consecutive loss to the Bulldogs.

All-TIME SERIES
Northwestern Oklahoma State University: The Rangers of NWOSU lead the all-time series 8-3, dating back to the first match on September 28, 2012. At home in Monticello the Blossoms are 2-3 inside Steelman Fieldhouse, and 1-5 on the road in Ava, Oklahoma. The last victory for the Green and White against the Rangers came in 2016 at home when they defeated NWSOU in a 3-0 sweep. The last and only match to go to a if necessary set five occurred on Oct. 4, 2013, with the Blossoms winning at home.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University: The Bulldogs lead the Blossoms in all-time wins 12-4 overall. UAM and SWOSU first met during the 2007 season, meeting in two separate tournaments. The Blossoms were members of the Gulf South Conference, while the Bulldogs were members of the Lone Star Conference. Arkansas-Monticello took the Aug. 31 match in San Antonio but fell to Southwestern Oklahoma in their Sept. 7 meeting in Denton. The Bulldogs would take the first Great American Conference meeting 3-0 in Weatherford, Oklahoma during the 2011 season. At home in Monticello the Blossoms are 2-4, while they have a 1-6 record on the road in Oklahoma. The last victory for the green and white came on Oct. 7, 2016, when UAM defeated SWOSU 3-1 inside Steelman Fieldhouse.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Blossoms went 0-3 last week, starting with a loss to Southern Arkansas University, 3-0 (23-25, 21-20, 15-25), on Tuesday, Oct. 1, followed by a 3-0 (17-25, 24-25, 21-25) loss to Henderson State University on Thursday, Oct. 3, and a 3-1 (16-25, 11-25, 25-20, 13-25) loss to Harding University on Oct. 5.
  • Senior Abrielle Jordan established a new career-high on blocks in a match with seven, during the Henderson State match.
  • During the Harding match-up, Valeria Velez and Licia Echevarria recorded a new career high on total digs in a match with 18 and 17 respectively.
  • Outside Hitter Holiday Ellis recorded her first double-double of the 2024 season with 16 kills and 13 digs against Harding.

BLOSSOMS BY THE NUMBERS
  • Arkansas-Monticello is averaging 15.97 digs, 11.16 kills, 10.36 assists, 1.71  blocks, and 1.41 service aces in 58 sets played this season.
  • Middle Blocker Abrielle Jordan ranks seventh in hitting percentage (.304) with 82 kills on 207 total attempts through 53 sets played, and fourth on total blocks with 0.96% on 15 blocks saved, 36 assisted on 51 total attempts.
  • Junior Mia Smalls ranks ninth in total assists with 366 through 58 sets played (6.31%), and ninth in serving aces with 20 (.34%).
