Men's Basketball to Hold Billie Ball Game for Home Opener

Weevils to take on Tigers of Champion Christian College

MONTICELLO, Ark. -  The University of Arkansas-Monticello Men's Basketball team (0-2) is preparing for the 2024-25 home opener on Thursday, November 14 against the Tigers of Champion Christian College. Thursdays match up will be the annual Billie Ball Game with tip off scheduled for 12:30 p.m. inside Steelman Fieldhouse.

"I thought we got better defensively this past weekend," said Head Coach Chad Tapp. "We need to build on that this week in practice as well as Thursday. We are excited about getting to play in front of our home crowd this week and having another opportunity to get better."

LAST MEETING
The Boll Weevils were the winners in the last meeting on November 16, 2019, besting Champion Christian 109-74 inside Steelman Field House. Marcus Gilbert, KJ Lesure, Justin Slocum, and Kwame McBean each tallied at least 10 points, while Gilbert went for 25 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. UAM recorded 34 points off the bench and 30 points off turnovers. The Weevils had four players in double-figures in scoring and shot 53.9 percent from the floor. The 109 points were the most in a game since the 2017-18 season when the Weevils scored 110 over Texas College. 

All-TIME SERIES
UAM currently is undefeated against Champion Christian, 3-0. The Boll Weevils and Tigers first played each other in 2013, with UAM taking the win 101-51. The 101 points are the lowest they have scored against Christian College, with the other victories being 114-75 (2014) and 109-74 (2019). The Weevils have combined for 324 points over the Tigers, averaging 108 points a game. 

LAST TIME OUT
  • UAM went 0-2 last week in the Central Region Challenge with a 55-64 loss to Bemidji State University on Saturday, Nov. 9, and a 42-58 loss to #4 Minnesota State University Moorhead on Sunday, Nov. 10.
