Blossoms on the Road Monday Evening, Return Home Thursday Night

MONTICELLO, Ark. -  Arkansas-Monticello volleyball (4-18, 0-12) continues GAC play with a pair of matches on Monday, Nov. 4, and Thursday, Nov. 6. The Blossoms will start on the road Monday night at 6:00 p.m. in Russellville, Arkansas taking on the Golden Suns (12-14, 4-8) of Arkansas Tech University inside the Tucker Coliseum, before returning home Thursday night for a match-up against the Tigers (15-9, 6-6) of Ouachita Baptist University inside Steelman Fieldhouse at 6:00 p.m.

The next two games we're going to take one game at a time," said Head Coach Arlicia Ortiz. "The hope is to be consistent in all aspects, utilize our strengths, & use our drought as motivation."

LAST MEETING
Arkansas Tech University: The Golden Suns walked away with the victory inside Steelman Fieldhouse on September 24, winning 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 26-24, 24-26, 11-15) against the Blossoms. Arkansas-Monticello was led by Abrielle Jordan with 11 kills, Mia Smalls with three aces, and Abrielle Jordan, Kerrigan Biggs, and Natalie White with 4 blocks each. Licia Echevarria led on digs with 17, and Mia Smalls led on assists with 25. Mia Smalls recorded her second double-double of the season in the match recording 25 assists and 10 digs. The Blossoms were held to a .151 hitting percentage on 73 digs, 50 assists, 10 blocks, 50 kills, and eight aces.

Ouachita Baptist University: The Tigers proved victorious in the last meeting on Thursday, Sept. 26 inside the Sturgis Physical Education Center, winning 3-1 (25-23, 14-25, 13-25, 12-25) against UAM. OUA held the Blossoms to a .101 hitting percentage on 34 kills, 58 digs, 31 assists, six aces, and six blocks. The green and white were led by Isneydy De La Rosa on 2 aces and 10 kills, Abrielle Jordan on blocks with four, Jordan Wehr on digs with 17, and Mia Smalls who assisted with 18 and aces with 2.

All-TIME SERIES
Arkansas Tech University: The Golden Suns currently lead the series 34-8, dating back to 2005. Inside Steelman Fieldhouse, UAM is 6-14 against Arkansas Tech, while they are 2-18 on the road in Russellville. The 3-2 loss to the Golden Suns in September was the first five-set loss since both teams began playing against each other; the other two five-set matches were in favor of the Blossoms.

Ouachita Baptist University: Heading into Thursday evening's match, the Tigers lead the all-time series 30-10, including a record of 16-3 in Arkadelphia, and a 7-13 record inside Steelman Fieldhouse. The last home match win against Ouachita Baptist came in September of 2022 in a five-set reverse sweep thriller (23-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-11). 

LAST TIME OUT
  • UAM went 0-1 last week with a 3-0 (9-25,16-25,21-25) loss to Harding University on Thursday Oct. 31.
  • Mia Smalls surpassed 500 career digs with her seven in the match.
  • Valeria Velez set a new career high on blocks with three.

BLOSSOMS BY THE NUMBERS
  • Arkansas-Monticello is averaging a .128 hitting percentage on 15.05 digs, 10.67 kills, 10.02 assists, 1.32 blocks, and 1.28 service aces in 79 sets played this season.
  • Senior Abrielle Jordan ranks third on total blocks with 1.00% on 27 blocks saved, and 49 assisted on 76 total attempts.
  • Setter Mia Smalls ranks ninth in total assists with 472 through 80 sets played (5.90%).
