RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas-Monticello volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking three-set match to Arkansas Tech University, 14-25, 14-25, 17-25, Monday evening inside the Tucker Coliseum.
The loss dropped the Blossoms to 4-19 on the season and 0-13 in GAC play, while the Golden Suns improved to 13-14, 5-8 GAC.
UAM was held to a .083 hitting percentage on 31 digs, 16 assists, 3 blocks, 3 aces, and 22 kills.
SET-BY-SET
FIRST SET (14-25 ATU, ATU leads 0-1)
Arkansas Tech saw themselves on the board first over UAM, yet the Blossoms were quick to tie the game, 3-3. With the set a manageable, 8-9, the Golden Suns found the momentum to pull away from the Blossoms to a distant, 9-16. Arkansas-Monticello could only add another five points to the board, dropping set one, 25-14.
SECOND SET (14-25 ATU, ATU leads 0-2)
UAM started down in the count, 2-1 early. After a Blossom unsuccessful attack error challenge (Arkansas-Monticello's challenge), the Golden Suns found an extra point for themselves to take a 3-1 lead. The Blossoms took the first lead of the match thanks to three errors from the Golden Suns for a, 5-4 score. The lead so evaporated, when ATU took five unanswered points from the Blossoms to make it, 7-11. With Arkansas-Monticello down, 9-16 for a second time, the Golden Suns continued to shine against the Blossoms taking the lead to plus eight, 20-12. After an unsuccessful challenge from Arkansas-Tech, UAM saw themselves down seven, 13-20. ATU would take the set over the Blossoms, 25-14.
THIRD SET (17-25 ATU , ATU wins 0-3)
Arkansas-Monticello saw themselves in the lead early for the first time, 3-2, but quickly fell to the defense of ATU to see themselves down 4-3. Unlike the last two sets, set three stayed evenly matched with a score of 7-6. The Golden Suns began to pull ahead once more, outscoring UAM with six straight unanswered points, to take a 7-14 lead. For the third time in the match, Arkansas-Monticello saw themselves down 9-16, and the chance for a fourth set dwindling. Not quitting UAM rallied, to get past 14, but it wasn't enough as ATU took the final set, 25-17, and the match 3-0.

The Blossoms return to the home Thursday, Nov. 7, for an evening match-up, as they take on the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist University. The first serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from the Steelman Fieldhouse in Monticello, Arkansas. Thursday is blackout night with all fans encouraged to wear black.
