Women's Basketball Close Out 2024 with a Win Over Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team closed out the fall leg of the 2024-25 season with a 62-55 win over Arkansas Tech University. The victory pushed UAM to a 2-3 record in Great American Conference play.

Alyssa Batton led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (7-4, 2-3 GAC), scoring 13 points in the match-up. Batton hit 5-11 field goals on the day and 3-6 on three-pointers. She also contributed two rebounds in her 27 minutes played, with one defensive and one offensive. She grabbed one assist and one steal on the evening. 

Kelsey Blakemore followed close behind on the afternoon, posting 11 points of her own. Blakemore went 4-11 on field goals and 3-3 from the free throw line. She also contributed eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. 

Alindsey Long was the final Blossom in double-digits, with 10 points in the game. Long was 4-6 in field goals and 2-4 on three-pointers with one assist and one steal.  
 
Arkansas Tech (3-6, 1-4 GAC) was led by Julie Wagner with 14 points.

The Golden Suns won the opening half of the game, seeing Arkansas Tech outscore the Blossoms 18-17 in the first quarter and 12-5 in the second. The teams were off to the locker rooms at the half with the Blossoms trailing 30-22.

Quarter three showed the momentum of the Blossoms, scoring 19 points in comparison to Arkansas Tech's 17. The Golden Suns kept its advantage to six points, leading 47-41 heading into the final quarter of the game. The Blossoms carried their momentum into the fourth quarter, holding Arkansas Tech to 8 points to UAM's 21. The match-up came to a close with the Blossoms on top, 62-55. 

Arkansas-Monticello committed 12 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms will return to the court on Saturday, January 4, inside Steelman Fieldhouse as they take on Henderson State University. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
