Blossoms Can't Hold On, Drop Match-Up with SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team traveled to compete against out-of-state conference member, Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday evening. The Blossoms came out with a 59-53 loss to the Bulldogs.

Bailey Harris was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (6-13, 2-11 GAC) with 16 points, going 6-13 on total field goals, 1-4 on threes, and 3-4 on shots from the free throw line. Harris was tied for rebounds, grabbing two offensive and five defensive on the afternoon, while also contributing two steals in her 38 minutes.

Alindsey Long and Alyssia Thorne were the final Blossoms to score over 10 points in the game. Long also went 6-13 with field goals while also giving the Blossoms an assist and steal in her 37 minutes. Thorne hit 4-6 field goals and 3-4 free throws, while also giving the Blossoms seven defensive rebounds on top of an assist and two steals in her 28 minutes.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma (11-8, 8-5 GAC) was led by Avery Zinn with 19 points.

Harris opened the game for Monticello with a jumper in first minutes of the game. The Bulldogs took the lead for the remainder of the quarter, seeing a 10 point lead over the Blossoms. The score going into the second had Arkansas-Monticello trailing Southwestern 9-19.

Quarter two proved to be a total flip of momentum, going in the Blossoms favor as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 19-8. The teams would head to the locker room at half time with Arkansas-Monticello in the lead, 28-27.

The third quarter would also go to the Blossoms as they outscored Southwestern 14-9 as Bailey Harris and Alyssia Thorne lead the charge. UAM remained in the lead with a 6 point lead heading into the final quarter of the game 42-36.

The final quarter once again did not go the Blossoms way as Southwestern saw a 23-point quarter, while UAM was only able to post 11. The game came to an end with the Bulldogs on top, 59-53.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 20 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to action on Saturday, Feb. 3rd when they travel to play against out-of-state conference member Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 3:00 p.m.
