Lem Sees Win 100 as Blossoms Split Friday Doubleheader, Win Series Over Delta State

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team traveled to Cleveland, Mississippi Friday afternoon to complete the series against Delta State. The Blossoms won both games for the day with a 13-8 victory in game one, followed by a 8-0 loss in game two.

Game 1, 7 Innings

Scoring Recap:
The Blossoms came out swinging in game one, scoring 4 runs in the first inning of the game. Kennedy Cox drove in the first run on a double to left field. The remaining three runs scored on an error.

After the Lady Statesmen scored a run in the bottom of the first, the UAM offense exploded with six in the second. Courtnee Sensibaugh kicked it off the rally with a solo home run, followed by another run scored on an error. Sophie Wood drove in four on a grand slam to right to give the Blossoms a 10-1 lead.

Delta State saw a home run in the second, but UAM immediately responded in the top of the third with an rbi single from Lexie Smith.

The home team would score six runs over the next three innings, bringing the game to 11-8.

Arkansas-Monticello saw a double from Smith in the seventh drive in Grace Neal, followed by an RBI from Madison Gardiner, for the final runs of the game.

The Blossoms would go on to win the first game of the day 13-8 over the Lady Statesmen and give head coach Kyle Lem his 100th win at the helm of the UAM Softball program.

Scoring Recap:
Delta State found two runs in four different innings, while the Blossoms were unable to get one on the board. The game would come to an end in the fifth.

The split on the day pushes Arkansas-Monticello to a 8-6 record for the 2024 season.

Arkansas-Monticello is back in action as they start Great American Conference play, Friday Feb. 23rd, as they host Southeastern Oklahoma State University. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
