MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team hosted conference member, Henderson State University on Saturday afternoon. The Blossoms came out with a 69-57 victory over the Reddies.
Bailey Harris was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (8-16, 4-14 GAC) with 23 points, going 10-13 on total field goals, 1-1 on three pointers, and 2-2 on shots from the free throw line. Harris also contributed three defensive rebounds and a steal in her 37 minutes.
Kelsey Blakemore followed close behind, posting 17 points of her own on the game. She hit 5-7 field goals and 7-11 from the free throw line while giving the Blossoms three defensive rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
Haleigh Crews was the final Blossom in the double digits, scoring 14 points against the Reddies. She hit 6-12 field goals and 2-3 from the free throw line with four defensive rebounds and two steals on the day.
Henderson State (15-9, 11-7 GAC) was led by
Olivia Allen with 13 points.
Crews opened the game for Monticello with a jumper on their first possession within 30 seconds of the game. For the rest of the quarter, the teams would continue to trade points back and forth and the score remained close the whole time. The score going into the second had Arkansas-Monticello leading 22-21 over Henderson State.
The second quarter again remained close as both teams continued to fight back and forth for who would gain the control over the game. The teams would head to the locker room at half time with Arkansas-Monticello trailing Henderson State, 35-31.
The Blossoms prevailed in quarter three, out-scoring the Reddies 24-6 throughout the third ten minute period. The Blossoms saw
Bailey Harris score a jumper to regain the lead against the Reddies. UAM led HSU 55-41 heading into the final quarter of the game.
The advantage was held by UAM for the entirety of the final quarter of the game, seeing a high of a 16 points difference. The game came to an end with the Blossoms on top, 69-57.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 17 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
