MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team hosted the final game of the 2023-2024 season against in-state conference member Ouachita Baptist University on Saturday afternoon. The Blossoms came out with a 84-83 overtime loss to the Tigers.
Alindsey Long was the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (8-20, 4-18 GAC) with 17 points, going 7-14 on total field goals, and 1-3 on threes. Long also contributed two assists and five rebounds in her 39 minutes.
Bailey Harris followed close behind, posting 16 points of her own. She hit 7-13 field goals, 1-3 three pointers, and 1-2 from the free throw line. Harris also contributed 5 rebounds and 1 assist for the blossoms.
Haleigh Crews posted 15 on the night, going 6-14 on field goals, 1-2 from deep, and 2-3 from the line. Crews also contributed seven rebounds, four assists, and one steal for the Blossoms.
Kelsey Blakemore and Azaria Hubert were the final Blossoms in double digits, scoring 14 and 11 points against the Tigers, respectfully. Blakemore went 6-12 field goals with four rebounds, and five assists. Hulbert went 2-9 field goals, 2-4 on three pointers, and 5-6 from the line.
Ouachita Baptist (11-15, 9-13 GAC) was led by
Laney Mears with 23 points.
The whole game was a battle back and forth between both teams. Ouachita winning three quarters and UAM winning the remaining 2. This game also went into overtime, with the Tigers overpowering the Blossoms by one point to complete the game.
Throughout the first quarter, the Blossoms kept the game close, leading the quarter by 6. The period began with a back and forth battle for possession and eventually UAM scored first points on free throws from
Kelsey Blakemore.
Quarter two showed the momentum of the Blossoms, scoring 20 points in comparison to the Tigers' 17. The teams would head to the locker room at half-time with UAM leading, 38-29.
The third quarter remained close as both teams continued to fight back and forth, UAM kept the advantage to 6 points, leading 54-51 heading into the final quarter of the game.
The fourth quarter was again a battle throughout its entirety. After an immaculate display of basketball, regular time came to an end with the two teams tied, 75-75. Overtime proved to be difficult for both teams, but saw Ouachita squeeze out the win, 84-83.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
