Blossoms Split Saturday with HSU, Win Weekend Series

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team closed out this weekend's conference series against Henderson State on Saturday afternoon. After a 10-8 win in the first game of the doubleheader, the Blossoms took a 3-2 loss in game two to close the weekend.

Game 1, 8 Innings

Scoring Recap:
UAM was the first team on the board, scoring a run in the first on a ground ball from Grace Neal. The Reddies responded in the bottom half of the inning to bring the score back to even at 1-1.

The Blossoms increased their advantage to 5-1 in the second, scoring a run on an error to take the lead, followed by a handful of ground balls that lead to RBI.

Over the bottom of the second and through the third, HSU was able to score five runs and take a 6-5 lead.

Neal launched her first home run of the season in the fourth to push Monticello back into the driver's seat, but two runs in the bottom half of the inning for Henderson brought the Blossoms back to trailing.

Ronnie Johnson gave the Blossoms hope in the seventh, tying the game on an RBI single that brought home Courtnee Sensibaugh. In extras the Blossoms tacked on to their lead, pushing it to a two run advantage over Henderson at 10-8.

The home team were unable to respond, resulting in a Blossom win and a conference series win locked in.

Scoring Recap:
The Blossoms once again scored first in the final game of the weekend, seeing Lexie Smith drive in two runs in the first on an RBI single to right center.

Unfortunately, UAM was unable to get another run across the plate throughout the rest of the game. Meanwhile, the Reddies would put up a run in the fifth, sixth, and a would win the game on a bases loaded HBP in the seventh.

The split on the day pushes Arkansas-Monticello to a 19-22, 11-12 GAC record for the 2024 season.

Arkansas-Monticello is back to work on Tuesday, Apr. 9 when they host Southern Arkansas University for a conference doubleheader at Alvy Early Field. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
