Weevils Basketball Sign 13 in 2024 Class

MONTICELLO, Ark. – University of Arkansas at Monticello Head Men's Basketball Coach Chad Tapp announced the signing of 13 student-athletes who will continue their playing career with the Boll Weevils in the 2024-2025 season.

Among the signees are six junior college transfers, three NCAA Division I transfers, one Division II transfer, and three high school seniors.

"I'm really excited about this recruiting class," said Coach Tapp. "We knew when we hired coach Clarke in August that our recruiting was going to see a major upgrade. We feel like we have added guys at every spot who will be able to compete with the best teams in the GAC. We are excited to welcome both them and their families to the UAM basketball program."

Harouna Sissoko | Grad | F | 6-7 | 215 | Kayes, Mali (Illinois State/Grandview Christian)

· Started 24 of 75 games played in four years
· Career 53% field goal percentage
· Grabbed 10 rebounds vs. UMass Lowell
· Pulled in 9 rebounds on a season-high 33 minutes of action against Evansville University.
· Won a state championship as a senior in high school

Coach Tapp on Harouna Sissoko: "Harouna is very athletic, long, and active defensively. He finishes around the rim and has the ability to shoot the three. We think he will be really effective in the high post and pinch. On top of all this, he is a great young man."

Jordahn Johnson | Senior | C | 6-8 | 250 | Mountain House, Cali. (Humbolt St./Los Positas CC)

· Averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds as a sophomore at Los Positas
· Career 60% field goal percentage
· Scored more than 30 points on three occasions with a career-high 33
· Scored 20 or more 12 times
· Grabbed double-digit rebounds 23 times with a career-high 20 in a single game
· Two-time First Team All-Conference, Freshman of the Year, and two-time All-State

Coach Tapp on Jordahn Johnson: "Jordahn is very physical post presence. He has a nose for the ball in terms of rebounding and wants to score in the post. He has great hands and feet as well as the ability to finish around the basket at a high level."

Devin Davis | Junior | G | 6-2 | 200 | Maryville, Ill. (St. Louis CC/Collinsville)

· Started all 30 games played in his sophomore season
· Averaged 15 points per game with a season-high 24 against Moberly CC
· Grabbed 12 rebounds for a season-high
· Dished out 9 assists for a season-high
· Named Second Team All-MCCAC

Chad Tapp on Devin Davis: "We are very excited to have Devin join us. He has had experience running triangle at St. Louis CC as well as in high school so he should have an easier adjustment. He has the ability to finish at the rim as well as create for others at both guard spots."

Joe Frazier | Junior | G| 6-2 | 180 | Leesburg, Ga. (Bishop State CC/Lee County)

· Led team to a 26-6 record and first-place finish in the ACCC while setting the school's single-season win total record
· Averaged 10.5 points per game on 48% shooting as a sophomore
· Shot 35% from the three-point line
· Averaged 13 points and five rebounds as a freshman

Coach Tapp on Joe Frazier: "Joe is a tremendous athlete. He has the ability to put pressure on the rim and is a very good defender. The thing we like most about Joe is his willingness to do whatever it takes to win and that he comes from a winning program"

Patrick Johnson | Junior | G | 6-2 | 175 | Compton, Cali. (Angelina CC/Compton)

· Led team to a 22-11 record as a sophomore
· Shot 51% from the field
· Averaged five assists per game
· Season-high 20 points
· Had a season-high 10 assists on three separate occasions

Coach Tapp on Patrick Johnson: "Patrick is a really gifted passer and a very good athlete. We are excited about his ability to defend the ball as well as having someone in the backcourt who can create for others and doesn't turn the ball over. He is an extremely competitive player."

Donavan Seamster | Junior | G | 6-3 | 180 | Shreveport, Lou. (Iowa Western CC/Woodlawn Prep)

· Averaged 12.4 points per game
· Career 37% from long range with 68 made threes
· Career-high 25 points vs. Northeastern CC
· Made seven threes vs. Northeastern CC
· Made multiple threes in 18 of 28 games

Coach Tapp on Donavan Seamster: "Donavan is an excellent three-point shooter. We needed to add three-point shooting and he certainly fills that role. He is very quick and we feel like he can make a major impact for us on top of being a good young man."

Jamir Turner | Junior | G | 6-6 | 205 | Houston, Texas (Kilgore CC/Ridgepoint)

· Led team to a 24-9 record
· 54% field goal percentage
· Season high 18 points vs Bossier Parrish
· Had five steals against Lee College

Coach Tapp on Jamir Turner: "Jamir takes pride in his ability to defend and impacts winning in a lot of different ways. He has the ability to defend several positions, rebounds, and competes. We are really excited he has chosen to be a Boll Weevil."

Caleb Carr | Sophomore | C | 6-9 | 250 | Las Cruces, NM (University of Central Arkansas/Las Cruces)

· Appeared in 19 games as a true freshman
· Season-high seven points against Champion Christian and pulled down 12 rebounds
· NMHSCA 5A All-star selection in high school
· Saw significant playing time vs. Kansas St., Missouri, and Oklahoma

Coach Tapp on Caleb Carr: "Caleb is a really hard worker and has shown a lot of improvement in his one season of college basketball. On top of being an excellent basketball player he is a tremendous kid and student. We are really excited to see his development because he has just scratched the surface."

Seth Grandberry | Sophomore | G | 5-10 | 175 | Millington, Tenn. (Bishop State CC/Lausanne)

· Led team to a 26-6 record and first-place finish in the ACCC while setting the school's single-season win total record
· Shot 50% field goal percentage and 42% from three
· Season-high 25 points against Shelton State
· Made 58 threes in 27 games
· Runner up for Mr. Basketball as a senior in high school

Coach Tapp on Seth Grandberry: "Seth had an impressive freshman year at Bishop State leading them to their best season in school history. He has the ability to score from all three levels and can create for others. Seth has won as a high school senior at Lausanne and as a freshman at Bishop State. We believe he is going to help us do the same here."

Tadarius Jacobs | Sophomore | G | 6-3 | 185 | Memphis, Tenn. (University of Memphis/Bartlett)

· Played in 11 games as a true freshman at the University of Memphis
· Logged seven minutes off the bench vs. East Carolina
· Went 4 of 5 from the field
· Grabbed two rebounds vs. SMU
· Won a state championship in high school

Coach Tapp on Tadarius Jacobs: "Tadarius shoots the ball at a high level and brings valuable experience having played two years at Memphis. Tadarius was a big part of winning at Memphis East as well as Bartlett High School. We are excited to have him join us."

Carson Arrington | Freshman | G | 6-4 | 175 | Monticello, Ark. (Monticello)

· Prepped at Monticello High School
· Will Walk on and provide depth in practice
· Good athlete who works hard

Coach Tapp on Carson Arrington: "We were familiar with Carson with him being local. He came to one of our camps and impressed us with how hard he played. We are excited he has joined our team."

Bryson Hammond | Freshman | C | 6'8 | 210 | Jacksonville, Ark. (Jacksonville)

· Averaged double figures in points and rebounds
· Led his team to a state tournament appearance
· Played AAU with the Hawks

Coach Tapp on Bryson Hammond: "Bryson has improved a lot over the last couple of years. He is really long and has a good skill set. We are excited to be able to work with him and help develop him."

Myles Herbert | Freshman | G | 5-10 | 160 | Houston, Texas. (The Village School)

· Second team All-State
· Academic All-State
· Won multiple state championships in high school

Coach Tapp on Myles Herbert: "Myles came to one of our camps and impressed us with his ability to defend and handle the ball. His best basketball is ahead of him."
