Volleyball Continues GAC Play With Three Games This Week

Blossoms Set to Face Muleriders, Reddies and Bisons

MONTICELLO, Ark. -  UAM volleyball continues GAC action with three matches on Tuesday, Oct, 1, Thursday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct. 5. The Blossoms start the week in Magnolia, Arkansas on Tuesday against conference rival, Southern Arkansas University, before returning home to take on Henderson State on Thursday and Harding on Saturday.

"It's an action-packed week that's gonna require a lot energy," says Head Coach Arlicia Ortiz"We've been working on staying disciplined & focusing on the fundamentals even when we get fatigued. I believe that's going to play a crucial part in our success. Although it's a lot of games in one week, I'm very excited to see us do better & better every time."

UAM TICKETS THE MATCHUPS
MATCH 13: UAM Volleyball vs. conference rival Southern Arkansas University (8-3, 2-1) at W.T. Watson Athletic Center; first serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1.

MATCH 14: UAM Volleyball vs. Henderson State University (8-7, 0-3) at Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday, October 3; first serve scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The match-up against the Reddies will be our Melanoma Awareness Game.

MATCH 15: UAM Volleyball vs. Harding University (9-5, 2-0) at Steelman Fieldhouse; first serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5. Saturday's match-up against the Bisons will be played to bring awareness to Lymphoma.

LAST MEETING
Southern Arkansas University: SAU took both match-ups last year, with the Muleriders winning match one on Sept. 21 in Monticello, 3-1, (25-17, 26-28, 25-18, 25-13), then winning at home in Magnolia, Ark., 3-0, (25-14, 25-16, 25-10) on Oct. 31.

Henderson State University: The Tigers won both match-ups in 2023, taking the Sept. 28 match, 3-0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-15) at UAM, before taking the Nov. 2 contest, 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-9) in Arkadelphia.

Harding University: The Lady Bisons proved victorious over the Blossoms last year winning both meet-ups. Harding took the first match of the year in Searcy, Ark. on Sept. 26, 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-15), before coming to Monticello and winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-17), on Nov. 9

All-TIME SERIES
Southern Arkansas University: This will be the 39th meeting between the Blossoms and Muleriders since they first met in October 2005. The Muleriders tied the all-time series record at, 19-19, after winning both matches in 2023. In the final meeting on October 31, 2023, SAU won at home in Magnolia 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-10). The Blossoms were led by, Freshman Jordan Wehr who recorded 10 assists, Outside Hitter Natalie White with six kills, and Senior Stasha Adams with 13 digs.

Henderson State University: Thursday evening's match is the 38th meeting between UAM and HSU since they started play in Sept. 2005. The Reddies lead the all-time series, 14-23, while Henderson leads 12-7, inside Steelman Fieldhouse. Henderson won the last match-up 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-9) in Arkadelphia on November 2, 2023. Arkansas-Monticello was led by Middle Blocker Kerrigan Biggs with seven kills, setters Bruna Silva and Jordan Wehr with 11 assists, and defensive specialist Stasha Adams who recorded 14 digs.

Harding University: Through 40 matches played, the Lady Bisons lead 39-1 in the all-time series record. In the final game of the 2023 regular season, the Lady Bisons took the win 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-17) over the Blossoms. UAM Volleyball was led by Freshman Natalie White with nine kills, freshman Jordan Wehr and junior Bruna Silva with 11 assists, and Senior Stasha Adams and Outsider Hitter Jasmine Welton with 12 digs each.

LAST TIME OUT
  • UAM went 0-2 last week, beginning with a loss to Arkansas Tech University, 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-27, 14-25), on Tuesday, Sept. 24, followed by a 3-1 (18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 20-25) loss to Ouachita Baptist University on Thursday, Sept, 26.   
  • Outside Hitter Isneydy De La Rosa recorded a career-high, 10 kills during the Ouachita Baptist match-up.
  • During the Arkansas Tech match-up, Licia Echevarria recorded a career high 17 digs.

BLOSSOMS BY THE NUMBERS
  • Arkansas-Monticello is averaging 15.44 digs, 10.96 kills, 10.25 assists, 1.69  blocks, and 1.56 service aces per set through 12 matches this season.
  • Middle Blocker Abrielle Jordan ranks second in hitting percentage (.346) with 63 kills on 159 total attempts through 43 sets played, and ninth on total blocks with 0.88%.
  • Junior Mia Smalls ranks ninth in total assists with 297 through 48 sets played (6.51%), and seventh in serving aces with 19 (.40%).
  • Outside Hitter Natalie White ranks fourth in points with 167 on 147 kills in ten matches, averaging 3.80% per set.
