MONTICELLO, Ark. - The Arkansas-Monticello men's basketball team is preparing for two out-of-state GAC games this week, as they head to western Oklahoma. The Boll Weevils will take on the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. and the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday, January 18 at 3:00 p.m.
"We've played better as of late, we just need to put together a full 40 minutes," said Head Coach
Chad Tapp.
"Winning on the road is tough. We are excited to get a chance to compete against two good teams."
LAST MEETING
Northwestern Oklahoma State University - The Boll Weevils fell to the Rangers in Alva on February 3 by a final score of, 63-81. Isaac Jackson led the way for Arkansas-Monticello with 20 points, going 8-23 on total field goals, and 4-4 from the line. Jackson also contributed two rebounds, and two assists in his 40 minutes of play. Wesley Booker and Josh Denton followed close behind, each posting 12 points of their own for the Boll Weevils. Booker hit 3-6 total field goals, 1-2 threes, and 5-6 shots from the line with six rebounds, one assist, and a block. Denton contributed 3-6 total field goals, 3-6 beyond the arc, and 3-4 from the line. Denton also had two rebounds, one assist, and one steal for the Weevils. Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
Southwestern Oklahoma State University - UAM took down SWOSU, 68-57, in the last meeting in Weatherford on February 1. Isaac Jackson once again led the way for Arkansas-Monticello with 26 points, going 10-15 on total field goals, 1-2 from beyond the arc, and 5-6 from the line. Jackson also contributed five rebounds, with one offensive and four defensive in his 40 minutes of play. Zane Nelson followed close behind, posting 20 points of his own for the Boll Weevils. Nelson hit 6-14 total field goals, 2-7 threes, and 6-6 shots from the line with seven defensive rebounds, and five assists. Arkansas-Monticello committed 19 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University - The Rangers of NWOSU hold a one-game lead over the Weevils, 11-12, dating back to the first meeting in December of 2012. Since then UAM has compiled a 6-5 home record and a 4-7 away record against the Rangers. The longest win streak for the Boll Weevils sits at five, which was completed between March 2018 and January 2020. The two teams have only met once outside of Monticello and Alva, competing in the first round of the GAC Tournament in Batesville, Oklahoma, where the Weevils knocked the Rangers out of postseason play with a 68-58 win. Through 23 games played UAM has recorded 1,640 points off NWOSU, averaging 71.3 points per game.
Southwestern Oklahoma State University - The Weevils lead the Bulldogs with a 14-13 record since the first meeting in November of 1987. The first meeting was a 59-79 loss in a neutral sight game. The first GAC match would be held in Monticello on January 1, 2012, and be a winner for the Weevils, 86-82. The Boll Weevils and Bulldogs are evenly matched both at home and away, 7-5. The longest comprised win streak stands at 7, which started in December 2016 and busted in January 2020. The highest margin of victory came via a 101-70 win in Monticello on February 4, 2017. Through 27 games played the Weevils have scored 1,978 points, averaging 73.26 per game.
