CLEVELAND, Miss. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team (4-1, 0-0 GAC) traveled to Delta State University for an afternoon meeting with the Lady Statesmen. The Blossoms came out of the contest with a 61-57 loss.
Brilynn Findley led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (4-1, 0-0 GAC), posting 11 points in the matchup. Findley hit 5-7 total field goals and 1-1 free throws on the afternoon. She also contributed four rebounds in her 33 minutes played, along with three steals and one assist.
Alyssa Batton was the other Blossom in the double-digits, posting 10 points in the game. Batton went 3-7 on field goals and 4-5 on free throws, with five rebounds and one assist.
Delta State (2-1, 0-0 GSC) was led by
Jariyah Williamson with 17 points.
Arkansas-Monticello won the opening quarter of the game, seeing the Blossoms outscore Delta State, 15-11. The Blossoms shot 4-8 (50.0%) total field goals compared to Delta State shooting 5-18 (27.78%). The Lady Statesmen flipped the script in their favor, outscoring UAM 28-10 in the second quarter. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with the Blossoms trailing, 39-25.
The Blossoms returned from the half, driven to cut the Lady Statesmen's lead, scoring 14 points compared to DSU's 10. Delta State kept its advantage to 10 points, leading 49-39 heading into the final quarter of the game. Arkansas-Monticello once again outscored the Lady Statesmen in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to just three points with 26 seconds left on the clock. As the time ran out, the Blossoms came up just short, concluding the game with a 61-57 loss for UAM.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 23 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
