CLINTON, Miss. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team closed out the remaining game of their pre-conference schedule Tuesday evening in Clinton, Mississippi. The Blossoms came out of the contest with a 59-50 victory to the Choctaws of Mississippi College.
Alyssa Batton led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (5-1, 0-0 GAC), posting 18 points in the matchup. Batton hit 4-7 total field goals, one three-pointers, and 9-9 free throws on the evening. She also contributed two rebounds in her 22 minutes played, along with two assists and a steal.
Alindsey Long was the other Blossom in the double-digits, posting 15 points in the game. Long went 6-12 on field goals and 3-4 on threes, with two rebounds and two assists.
Mississippi College (1-4, 0-0 GSC) was led by
Nia Coleman with 15 points.
Arkansas-Monticello held control for the entirety of the game, outscoring Mississippi College in three of the four quarters. The Blossoms won the opening quarter, outscoring the Choctaws 16-9; however, Mississippi College held the Blossoms to single-digits in the second quarter, outscoring UAM 11-8. The teams headed to the locker room at the half with the Blossoms leading, 24-20.
Arkansas-Monticello's momentum continued into the second half as the Blossoms outscored the Choctaws 14-10 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Blossoms once again increase their lead, as UAM posted 21 points to Mississippi College's 20. The Blossoms reached a game-high lead of 11 points after a three-pointer from
Alindsey Long with 9:01 left on the clock. As the time ran out, Arkansas-Monticello came out on top in a 59-50 victory.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 18 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
