MONTICELLO, Ark. - To kick off Great American Conference play, your Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils welcomes 15th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist Bison to Steelman Field House. Despite tremendous effort to take down the undefeated Bison, UAM fell 71-57.
Isaac Jackson led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (4-3, 0-1 GAC), posting 17 points in the game. Jackson hit 8-20 total field goals on the day and 1-1 free throws. He also contributed four total rebounds, two assists, and a steal in his 40 minutes.
Josh Smith and
Ashton Price saw 15 points posted on the evening, respectively, as the final Boll Weevils in the double-digits. Smith went 5-11 on field goals and 5-7 from the line, while grabbing six rebounds, one block, and a steal. Price went 4-10 on field goals and 7-10 from the line, while grabbing three rebounds and an assist.
Oklahoma Baptist (7-0, 1-0 GAC) was led by
Terry Conor Jr. with 19 points.
Arkansas-Monticello kicked off the first half with an early 8-3 lead over the Bison; however, Oklahoma Baptist quickly flipped the script in their favor, taking a 31-16 lead over the Weevils. With 4:32 remaining on the clock, the Bison reached a half-high of 15 points in the lead over Monticello. The teams headed to the locker room at the half with the Weevils trailing, 35-26.
The second 20-minute period proved more evenly matched, as Arkansas-Monticello was only outscored 36-31. The Bison increased their lead to a game-high 16 points with 18 seconds on the clock, but the Weevils decreased it to 14 as the game came to a close. Arkansas-Monticello came out with a 71-57 loss to open conference play.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 11 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
