Softball Close Out Opening Weekend with Two Wins

BRANSON, Mo. - The Arkansas-Monticello softball team closed out the final day of the Branson Lead-Off Classic with two wins on Saturday. The Blossoms finished game one with a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs of Truman State, followed by a 4-2 win over the Jets of Newman University.

Scoring Recap:
Dacia Sexton got the Blossoms on the board first in the third, scoring on a wild pitch to put UAM up 1-0.

Truman State matched UAM in the fourth on an RBI single up the middle.

The Blossoms walked it off in the seventh on a TSU error, seeing Kammie Walker score on the play to give UAM a 2-1 win.

Scoring Recap:
Cada Collins drove in Sophie Wood in the second on a single for the game's first run.

Kammie Walker scored on a wild pitch in the fourth, followed by a third run in the fifth on an RBI double from Dacia Sexton to put UAM up 3-0.

The Jets responded with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning, bringing Newman within one at 3-2.

Cada Collins drove in Lainey Tippen on a single to center in the sixth for the final run of the ball game.

The game would conclude with a 4-2 Blossom win and a 3-1 start to the season.

Pitching Performances
Game 1
- Kayla Olthouse tossed a complete game against the Bulldogs, totaling 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts

Game 2
- Jadyn Barger threw 4.2 innings and grabbed the win on the day. She struck out four and walked two through 21 batters faced.
Ronnie Johnson closed out the final 2.1 innings, striking out two of nine batters faced.

- Aubree Goodnight - 1-for-1 with a double

The wins today push Arkansas-Monticello to (3-1) their best starting record since the 2019 season.

UP NEXT
Arkansas-Monticello is set to head to Bentonville, Arkansas for the annual Alvy Early Memorial Classic at Bentonville on Friday, February 7. They will take on William Jewell College (Mo.) and the University of Missouri - St.Louis in a doubleheader. The games are set to begin at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
