Blossoms Open Conference Play With Losses to OBU

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team welcomed the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University for the first GAC series of the 2025 season on Saturday. The Blossoms came out with a 5-0 loss in game one, followed by a 10-5 loss in game two.

Game 1, 7 Innings

Scoring Recap:
The Bison were the only team to score in game one, outscoring UAM 5-0. OBU saw a two-run home run in the fourth, followed by an RBI single and an error to bring in two more in the sixth. The final run of the game came on a double in the seventh.

Pitching Performance:
- Makenzie Martin started in the circle and tossed 5.2 innings, allowing 2 ER on four hits. She struck out three batters in the game.
- Kayla Olthouse threw the final 1.1 innings. She saw two hits and 0 earned runs.

Offensive Showcase:
- Dacia Sexton - 2-for-3 with 2 doubles

Game 2, 7 Innings

Scoring Recap:
The Bison offense once again struck first, scoring nine runs throughout the first four innings.

UAM found its first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI from Jessica Smith. Maddie Pflegging added two more runs to the board on a home run to left field, decreasing the deficit to 9-3.

An RBI double in the top of the sixth pushed the Bison back up to a 10-3 lead.

Pfleging launched her second home run of the ball game in the bottom half of the inning, making it a 10-5 game. The game would come to a close as no more runs were scored in the seventh.


Pitching Performance:
- Kyann Woods started game two, seeing only six batters before her outing came to an end. She allowed 4 earned runs on 1 hit with a strikeout.
- Ronnie Johnson took over in the first, totaling 2.2 innings thereafter with 4 runs allowed on 4 hits. She struck out 2 batters.
- Jade Keaton was the third Blossom in the circle, throwing 1.0 inning of her own and allowing 1 run on 3 hits.
- Jadyn Barger tossed the final 3.0 innings, seeing only 1 run score on 3 hits. She struck out 2 of 13 batters faced.

Offensive Showcase:
- Maddie Pfleging - 2-for-3 with 2 home runs, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored
- Jadyn Hart - 2-for-3 with a double and a walk

UP NEXT
Arkansas-Monticello will finish competing in the conference opener with the Bison tomorrow Sunday, February 23. First pitch is set for noon from Alvy Early Softball Field at Ryburn Park.
