MONTICELLO, Ark. - The Arkansas-Monticello men's basketball team is preparing for two out-of-state GAC games this week, as they head to Durant and Ada, Oklahoma. The Boll Weevils will take on the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. and the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday, January 18 at 3:00 p.m.
"We have had a lot of adversity this year and the ball hasn't necessarily bounced our way all the time," said Head Coach Chad Tapp. "That being said, I've been pleased with the fact that our guys are sticking with it. Nobody's giving up. We've played better as the year has gone on and just need to get over the hump. Winning on the road is tough and these are both really good teams, but I'm excited about our improvement and chances."
LAST MEETING
Southeastern Oklahoma State University - The Savage Storm won the last meeting, 58-62, in Monticello. Grandberry hit 8-17 field goals and 3-6 shots from three-point range while grabbing six defensive rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Jamir Turner was the other Boll Weevil with double-digits, scoring 14 on the afternoon. Turner was 5-8 on field goals and 4-7 on free throws with ten rebounds, one assist, and one block. Arkansas-Monticello committed 10 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
East Central University - The Weevils won the battle against the Tigers in overtime in January, taking them down by a final score of 66-61. Seth Grandberry with 19 points in the game was the leading scorer for UAM. Grandberry hit 5-13 field goals, 1-7 three-pointers, and 8-9 free throws while grabbing eight rebounds. Jamir Turner was the other Boll Weevil with double-digits, scoring 16 on the afternoon. Turner was 6-14 on field goals and 3-4 on free throws with five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Arkansas-Monticello committed 7 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

Southeastern Oklahoma State University - The Savage Storm lead in the record, 11-19, dating back to the first game played on March 17, 1986. The first meeting would be the first of three games played at neutral sites before the formation of the GAC. The Weevils would take the first match-up 67-61 in Kansas City, MO. When the pair met for the first time in the GAC on January 7, 2012, the Weevils would take down SE, 90-78. Through the 30 games played, only two have been decided in overtime, with the January 2017 match taking two overtimes, in each game the Weevils took home the win. The largest margin of victory over the Savage Storm, was on March 3, 2021, by a score of 94-63. Through 30 games the Weevils have put 2,080 points on the board, averaging 69.33 points per game.
East Central University - The Boll Weevils hold a slight lead over the Tigers in the record, 16-11, which dates back to January 2012. The first meeting on January 21, 2012, was a 75-69 win in Monticello, which would be the start of their five-game winning streak against ECU, the longest thus far. At home in Steelman, the Weevils are 8-5, while they hold a 7-5 record as well in Ada, Oklahoma. The largest margin for a victory over East Central came by an 89-65 win on December 12, 2017, at home in Steelman Fieldhouse. UAM is averaging 76.41 points per game with 2,063 points scored through 27 games played.
