MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas-Monticello softball team will travel to Russellville, Arkansas, this weekend to continue GAC play with the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech University on March 7-8. The series opener is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex. Game two is set for noon on Saturday, March 8, with game three to follow.

LAST MEETING
Arkansas Tech University - The Blossoms came away with the seep last time they matched up with the Golden Suns, at home in Monticello in 2024. In game one of the series, the Blossoms beat the Golden Suns, 5-0, before taking the doubleheader, 4-3 (8 innings) and 6-3. In the first game of the series, Kennedy Cox drove in the first run of the game in the third, scoring Jadyn Hart on a single through the right side. Hart would bring home run number two in the fourth on an RBI on a single of her own. The Blossoms scored three more runs in the fifth. Cox found another RBI single, this time down the right field line, to score Sophie Wood. Cox made her way across the plate on an error and was followed by Lexie Smith, who scored on a single up the middle from Ronnie Johnson. The Golden Suns were unable to respond. Mallory Pitre recorded the win pushing her to a 7-7 record on the year. During the first game of the doubleheader, the Golden Suns scored their first run in the third inning of game two, being the first to cross the plate on an infield error. Arkansas Tech took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI single up the middle. Grace Neal put the Blossoms on the board in the sixth, driving in Kayla Richardson on a double off the wall in left. A SAC fly from Lexie Smith followed to bring home Adrianna Erichsen, tying the game at 2-2. ATU retook the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring a third run on an RBI double to short left field. Freshman Ronnie Johnson kept UAM alive in the bottom half of the inning, driving in Courtnee Sensibaugh on an RBI single to left. Bailey Camp walked it off in the bottom of the eighth, driving a single to left to score Kennedy Cox and giving the Blossoms a 4-3 win in game two. Kyann Woods recorded the win for the Blossoms her fifth win of the season. In the second game of the day, the Golden Suns were again the first team on the board in game three, taking a 3-0 lead over the Blossoms in the fifth. Ronnie Johnson crushed a double down the right field line to score Jadyn Hart from first base to kick off the bottom half of the inning. Kennedy Cox grabbed another RBI on the day with an RBI single to left center, scoring Kayla Richardson on the play to put UAM back within one. Lexie Smith rips a ball through the six-hole to score two, putting Monticello back on top heading into the sixth. Sophie Wood drove in two runs with two outs in the sixth, putting UAM up 6-3 over ATU. Arkansas Tech could not find another run in the game, resulting in a win for UAM. Kyann Woods once again won the game for the Blossoms pushing her to her sixth win.  

ALL-TIME SERIES
Arkansas Tech University - UAM holds a slight edge over ATU having won 39 meetings to the Golden Suns 37. The record dates back to the first meeting on April 16, 2004, a 6-1 win for the Blossoms. Through 76 games played the Blossoms have complied a 20-19 record at home, 18-17 on the road, 1-1 at neutral site locations, and a 36-36 record in conference play. The largest margin of victory for the Blossoms came in March of 2021, via a 9-1 decider in Monticello. With the longest win streak sitting at six, that spanned from February 2007 to April 2008. To date Arkansas-Monticello has run home 302 times, averaging 3.97 runs per game.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLOSSOMS
The Blossoms went 2-3 last week, dropping a midweek doubleheader to Mississippi College on Wednesday, February 26, 54 and 11-0. The Blossoms then took on the Reddies of Henderson State, winning on February 28, 4-0, before splitting the doubleheader on March 1, 8-4 and 5-3.
